2015 ONTARIO PROSPECT CHALLENGE (St. Catharines): Bailey shines in loss to Team West

Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines was the location of the 2015 Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) junior varsity game with Team West squaring off against Team Halton-Peel.

2014 MVP Jaden Bailey hit the field running, showing his speed and agility for Team Halton-Peel.

Matthew Dahmer substituted in as quarterback for Team West with 3:31 on the clock in the first quarter.

In the first quarter, Team West conceded a safety to Team Halton-Peel to open the scoring.

Before the half, both teams exchanged touchdowns. Team West pivot Zach Beno connected with Dylan Wilkins for a 15 yard major. However, the conversion attempt was blocked. Soon after, Kurtis Rourke found Nick Mardner for a 30 yard score but Team Halton-Peel’s could not convert on the two point attempt.

At halftime, Team West held on to a slim 8-6 lead over Team Halton-Peel.

In the second half, it was all Team West as Beno connected with Riley Boersma twice and Wilkins for the second time in the game to give them the 27-8 victory. Team Halton Peel’s Bailey racked up 99 yards on 14 carries to lead all rushers. Wilkins tallied two majors and amassed 86 total receviing yards while Boersma had two touchdowns and 55 receiving yards. Defensively, Team Halton-Peel’s Jake Robertson registered two tackles and recorded a sack.

“The second half we really shined,” said MVP Xenith Helmet Defensive Player of the Game Ryan Isenor.

In his postgame comments, Baron RIngs MVP Player of the Game Zach Beno, savoured the opportunity to play against the best of the best from the province.

“It was awesome competing against the best guys in Ontario,” added Beno.
