BC Community Games of the Week

VMFL

The playoffs get underway in all divisions this long weekend in the VMFL with Bear Creek Park in North Surrey being the busiest venue as it will host four games all on Sunday, November 11.

Pee Wee:
Coquitlam Cougars (#7) vs North Surrey Hawks (#2) – 10 am

On paper the North Surrey Hawks should have little difficulty getting past the Coquitlam Cougars this Sunday in their quarterfinal contest but, then again, anything can happen on any given Sunday.

The Hawks finished the regular season with a 9-1 record but they did suffer a surprising loss to the Coquitlam Wildcats which should give the Cougars some confidence knowing that the Hawks may be fallible.

The Cougars squeaked into the playoffs with a 6-4 record but have been playing some of their best football of late as they ended the regular season riding a four-game win streak while not surrendering a single point during that stretch.

Bantam 12-man:
Langley Mustangs (#3) vs North Surrey Tigers (#2) – 12 pm

The North Surrey Tigers just managed to finish ahead of the Langley Mustangs in the regular season standings by virtue of one extra win but that won’t matter this week when these teams hook up for a winner-take-all battle.

The Tigers and Mustangs split their two-game regular season series with Langley winning 32-26 in enemy territory at Bear Creek Park back on September 23 and North Surrey returning the favour at McLeod Athletic Park by squeaking out a slim 8-7 win on October 14.

Bantam 12-man:
South Delta Rams (#4) vs North Surrey Panthers (#1) – 2 pm

The North Surrey Panthers look to continue their perfect season as they head into their semi-final showdown against the South Delta Rams.

The Panthers and Rams met just once during the regular season but it was a nail-biter as North Surrey only managed to squeak by South Delta with a 14-10 win back on October 28 in the second-to-last weekend of the regular season.

Midget:
Langley Stampeders (#10) vs North Surrey Bears (#7) – 4 pm

This wild-card match-up between the Stampeders and Bears should provide some good entertainment as both teams look to advance to the quarter-final round in the Midget post-season.

The Bears were the better regular season squad finishing with a 6-4 record versus the Stampeders’ 4-6 record. The Bears also got the better of the Stampeders in their lone head-to-head meeting during the regular season defeating Langley by a 39-21 score back on September 23 at Bear Creek Park.

VCFL

The playoffs get underway in full force in the VCFL with plenty of action in all divisions. The following are our top picks of the long weekend.

Junior Bantam:
Abbotsford Falcons White vs North Langley Bears – 7:45 pm at McLeod Athletic Park on Saturday, November 10

The North Langley Bears will close out what will be a busy day at McLeod Athletic Park on Saturday by looking to score a victory over the Abbotsford Falcons White to advance to the Junior Bantam Final.

Abbotsford White and North Langley met twice during the regular season with the Falcons scoring a 40-36 win in their first meeting back on September 8 and the teams playing to a 12-12 draw in their most recent head-to-head battle on October 19.

Pee Wee:
Meadow Ridge Knights Blue vs Meadow Ridge Knights Gold – 1 pm at Samuel Robertson Technical School in Maple Ridge on Monday, November 12

It’s an all-Meadow Ridge battle in the Pee Wee division as the 8-2 Gold will battle the 7-3 Blue for a chance to advance to the Pee Wee division final.

These two teams met just once during the regular season with Gold coming away with a convincing 32-0 victory back on September 8.

SIFC

All SIFC games listed will take place on Sunday, November 11

It’s semi-final Sunday in the SIFC in both the Pee Wee and Junior Bantam divisions, respectively.

Pee Wee:
Kamloops Wildcats (#4) vs Vernon Yellow Jackets (#1) – 12 pm at Grahame Park Vernon

The Yellow Jackets are looking to keep their undefeated campaign going after finishing the regular season with a 10-0 record. The Wildcats blanked the Kelowna Dragons 26-0 last week in their first-round playoff match to set up this showdown against the top team in the division.

Pee Wee:
West Kelowna Sundevils (#3) vs Kelowna Lions (#2) – 10 am at CNC Kelowna

The Kelowna Lions will look to book their ticket to the Pee Wee division final by knocking off the West Kelowna Sundevils for the third time this season after twice defeating them during regular season play.

The Sundevils barely squeaked by the winless Salmon Arm Colts in their first-round playoff game last weekend winning by a 13-6 score.

Junior Bantam:
Vernon Marauders (#3) vs West Kelowna Sundevils (#2) – 12 pm at CNC Kelowna

The technically undefeated West Kelowna Sundevils will look to score a third victory overall this season over the Vernon Marauders to secure their trip to the final.

The Marauders were dominant in their first-round playoff game last weekend pummeling the Kamloops Broncos by a 38-0 score.

Junior Bantam:
Salmon Arm Broncos (#5) vs Kelowna-Mission Lions (#1) – 2 pm at CNC Kelowna

The Kelowna-Mission Lions will look to open their playoffs the same way they closed it out by defeating the Salmon Arm Broncos.

The Lions dominated the Broncos in their last regular season contest by defeating Salmon Arm by a 48-0 score.

The Broncos managed to overcome that setback by winning their first-round playoff game last weekend against the Kelowna Dragons by a 32-12 to set themselves up for this game against the Lions.
