Offensive player of the week
Jamel Lyles / RB / Westshore Rebels
25 carries, 272 yards, 2 TDS
2 receptions, 17 yards
Lyles continued his dominance of the BCFC ground game with a shredding of the Valley Huskers defence in the Rebels 45-28 win at Westhills Stadium in Langford. Add his offensive exploits to what he accomplished on special teams (1 kick return for 31 yards and 2 punt returns for 43 yards and a TD) and he totalled 363 all purpose yards.
Jamel is just the second player in BCFC history to eclipse 300 yards three times in a season. The other is former BC Lion and current Winnipeg Blue Bomber Andrew Harris.
This is also his 3rd offensive player of the week award to go along with 1 special team nod.
Defensive player of the week
Jordan Angrove / DB / Kamloops Broncos
6 tackles, 1 batted ball, 1 interception
Angrove and the Kamloops Broncos came out on the short end of a 16-13 defensive battle to the VI Raiders at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops Saturday night.
The loss wasn’t for lack of defensive effort. Led by Angrove and company the Broncos limited Raiders QB Jacob Laberge to 109 passing yards and an interception on 22 attempts.
Jordan is the first Bronco player to take home a player of the week this season.
Special Teams player of the week
Tiernan Doherty / PK / Langley Rams
10 punts 34.7 average
3 of 4 field goals, longest 47 yards
Docherty kept his Langley Rams in the 15-10 loss to the Okanagan Sun Saturday night. In fact he accounted for all his clubs points in this low scoring affair.
With any luck his club would have been driving for the game winning field goal rather than touchdown. With Docherty’s record of making field goals, the Rams likely would have won this one.
This is Docherty’s 4th special teams player of the week award this season
Past week-end scores
