Jeffrey resigns as Mounties Head Coach

SACKVILLE, NB — Mount Allison University today, November 18, announced that Kelly Jeffrey, head coach of the Mount Allison Mounties football team, has resigned.  Coach Jeffrey has been at Mount Allison for the past ten seasons, working as head coach since 2008, and during that time has been a driving force in rebuilding the team to prominence, both regionally and nationally.

Jeffrey is a three-time AUS coach of the year (2010, 2013 and 2014), and was also honoured as the CIS Coach of the Year in 2014, a year in which the Mounties achieved an undefeated regular season. Through his leadership the Mounties’ football program won back-to-back AUS championships (2013, 2014), and narrowly missed a three-peat in last week’s AUS championship game.

“I truly appreciate my time at Mount Allison, and after ten years it just felt like the right time to move on, personally and professionally,” says Jeffrey. “It has been an incredible journey with a special group of players and coaches.  I am forever grateful for the opportunity Mount Allison has given me.”

Mount Allison Director of Athletics & Recreation Pierre Arsenault notes that Jeffrey’s impact on the athletics program and the University at large has been significant.

“We wish to thank Kelly for his tremendous dedication to our Mounties football program,” says Arsenault. “Kelly’s vision for our program and his aptitude for leadership have been critical in the rebuilding of our program.”  Arsenault finished by saying, “We will definitely miss Coach Jeffrey but we know that he is leaving behind a solid foundation for the continued success of our program.”

A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
