CFC “CEGEP PICK ‘EM” (2): Number 2 versus 3 showdown

Last week wasn’t so good for us here at the CEGEP PICK EM. 2 out of 4….Pretty good in baseball, but not so good anywhere else. This week we will try to redeem ourselves with a bevy of week 3 action on tap. The featured game of the week no doubt, takes place in the Eastern Townships where the 2nd ranked Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars take on #3 upstart Lévis-Lauzon. Les Faucons have been this year’s surprise so far jumping out to a 2-0 start with relative ease. This week however they have a major test in the form of the 2nd ranked Cougars.

Other games of note for week three include a game that looked like the game of the week when the schedules came out, but is now a matter of survival for the Vanier Cheetahs as they take on fellow perennial power Vieux Montréal and hope to stave off a 0-3 start. The Cheetahs who did not lose last year until week 9 are still looking for their first win of the 2015 campaign. Two old foes square off but on a bigger stage as the Limoilou Titans, fresh off their first D1 victory take on André Grasset the other team who made the jump in 2015 from D2 to D1. Les Titans will be out for revenge as Grasset knocked them off 24-17 in the opening week of the 2014 D2 season.

Trying to improve on our 2-2 record here is the week 3 Pick ‘Em.

CFC CEGEP PICK ‘EM 2015 (2) WEEK 3:

#3 LES FAUCONS DU LÉVIS-LAUZON (2-0) @ #2 CHAMPLAIN-LÉNNOXVILLE COUGARS (2-0)

THE MATCH UP: The game of the week two unbeaten teams square off. The Cougars come in having suffered some key losses from the 2014 squad, but the return of QB Mike Arruda and #CFC100 receiver Marc-Antoine Pivin mean that the Cougars are capable of piling up the points….and fast.

Defensively les Faucons should be up to the task, led by Raphaël Faucher who chocked up 10 tackles and 3 sacks in last week’s win against Grasset. It should be a classic bout between two contenders

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: A great opportunity for les Faucons to make a statement but the Cougars offense wins it late.

FINAL SCORE: CHAMPLAIN 42 LÉVIS-LAUZON 33

#4 LES SPARTIATES DU VIEUX MONTRÉAL (2-0) @ VANIER CHEETAHS (0-2)

THE MATCH UP: Neither team has been impressive in the season’s first two week’s and although it’s not life or death yet for the Cougars, it’s pretty close. Les Spartiates are 2-0 with a pair of five point wins, it wouldn’t be a total shock if they get another one here.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Vanier falls to 0-3 and it looks like a long season for the usually mighty Cheetahs.Vieux on the other hand improves to 3-0, but how good are they……

FINAL SCORE: VIEUX MONTRÉAL 28 VANIER 21

#1 LE NOTRE DAME DE COLLEGE NOTRE DAME-DE-FOY (CNDF) (2-0) @ LES ÉLANS DU GARNEAU (0-2)

THE MATCH UP: CNDF comes into this one as the new #1, Garneau looking for their first win….they’ll probably need to keep looking…..

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: This one won’t be pretty. The biggest foe for CNDF this weekend will be complacency and that’s not going to happen, not this early in the season.

FINAL SCORE: CNDF 44 GARNEAU 14

LES PHÉNIX D’ANDRÉ-GRASSET (0-2) @ #5 LES TITANS DU LIMOILOU (1-1)

THE MATCH UP: Two teams that kicked off the D2 schedule last season, now meet at the D1 level.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: Les Titans are for real, Grasset is good, but will fall to 0-3.

FINAL SCORE: LIMOILOU 27 ANDRÉ-GRASSET 20

#4 LES NOMADES DU MONTMORENCY (1-1) @ LES LYNX DU ÉDOUARD MONTPETIT (0-2)

THE MATCH UP: The Lynx will try to avoid making it sixteen losses in a row when they do battle against 1-1 Montmorency.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN: The Lynx losing streak goes to 16

FINAL SCORE: MONTMORENCY 33 ÉDOUARD MONTPETIT 17
