Despite 4 times in the media saying they "did things by the book" regarding Mitchell Thompson bolting the Sun mid season to join the Raiders, the VI Raiders refused a BCFC disciplinary committee request to turn over club cell phone records to see if there was contact between the player and the Raiders between the dates of August 27 and when the player was finally released by the Sun due to the insistence of the players father as the Sun suggsted there was.
If the Raiders did nothing wrong, why not turn over the cell phone records to prove their innocence? Did the Raiders know the cell phone logs would expose exactly what the Sun said occurred?
Why didn't the BCFC rules and disciplinary committee find the club guilty of tampering when they refused to turn over the documents as requested?
The fact the committee was headed by Hadi Abassi's close friend Bicky Nadasen (who travelled with the Raiders to Kelowna the last time the teams met and was on the Raiders bench congratulating the team after its win) perhaps was an issue? The Sun asked that Nadasen not sit on the committee for that complaint due to the obvious conflict of interest.
Dieter, you guys need to get rid of Zaron, hire a true Head Coach not a wanna be, and get on the right track.
Just for the sake of this post, let's assume that the Raiders cheated like hell to get Thompson. Can you please tell me how many downs he played for the Raider defence it almost posting a shut out against the Sun's offence? Face it Dieter, the Sun need to stop worrying about the Raiders and what they are or are not doing and be concerned with what is going on in your own backyard.
When you read the paper you read quotes where your GM and HC and completely contradicting eachother. This used to be one the most proud CJFL/Amateur football programs in Canada. You are quickly turning into another small time BCFC program. The Rams went through two Head Coaches, drug charges, location changes in one off-season and they knocked you out of the playoffs. Look in the mirror Sun. I personally know of Sun Alum whom played in the Glory Years of the 90's who are completely turned off by everything that is going on. How the hell are you going to become a CIS program when you are getting worse in the God awful BCFC?
Howie did a terrific job of recruiting and Jason Casey was an excellant first year head coach. Did Jason make some mistakes? Probably, coaches in their first year and not the same in their second.
As for the Raiders situation, the Sun may have been the most vocal in lodging an actual complaint, both for tampering and one of our players being physically assaulted by a former Raider board member during a game, but our club is NOT the only BCFC club that has major concerns with the conduct of the Raiders organization. The other 5 team are unified in their concerns and working towards making the BCFC conference viable and competitive as a group.
As for some Sun alumni being unhappy? This is likely true, going back to the firing of the former head coach. Those outside the daily operations don't know how things operated during that time. Had the club stayed with the former head coach the Sun would have been 6-4 at best this season.
The Sun does enjoy some assitance from alumni, but the overwhelming majority won't even support the club with a $50 season ticket but are quick to criticize when the organization makes decisions. We like all organizations make mistakes but do our best.
Long story short, while the last couple years has been a hiccup that all teams go through, the club is in good shape going forward.
