2011 MTFL - Week 7 Recap

It’s officially week 7 of the 2011 MTFL season, so we have reached the halfway point of the 13 week season. There was a lot of football played this past week, so let’s get underway with the recap!

'AA' Division:
The winless Cobras took on Trojans this week making their quest for their first ever MTFL win a tough task. The Trojans took the Cobras to school as they won the contest 38-6.

The undefeated Spartans took on the Hawks and kept their record intact as they tripled up on the Hawks, 36-12. Spartans take a 5-0 record into next week where they will face their divisional nemesis, Trojans who sit at 4-1 and their only loss came at the hands of the Spartans. This game should be an exciting one.

Enforcers, after a much needed win against Hawks the week prior, were hoping to bring that momentum into their game against Gridiron this past week. However that was not to be as Gridiron took the game 25-8.

'A' Division:
New World Order and Irish hooked up for a game. Irish are still looking for their first MTFL win and without a doubt, if they were going to get it here, it would be well earned against a tough team. Irish clawed their way to a tie, something they can at least rejoice in as they have taken their first step in competing in a very tough division.

Reapers at 4-0, faced off against Angels. The last time these two met it was the 2010 ‘A’ Division Semi-Finals and the Angels won 19-6 to advance to the ‘A’ Division Championship game. Reapers were looking to exact some revenge and they got it as they won the game 28-8 improving their record to 5-0.

Dirrty Birdz took on Saints. Saints were looking to get a win but had a tough task ahead of them and would need to step it up a notch. Dirrty Birdz showed no signs of giving them an inch as they won 50-0.

Hustlin’ Owls took on Steelers who were coming off their first win, the previous week. However, the Owls were looking to keep pace with the teams ahead of them. It was a very close game as both sides were fighting valiantly for a win. The score was tied 7-7 at the half. Owls showed just enough to seal the victory and won 20-13.

Super Troopers took a perfect record into their game against Axemen. Super Troopers came out on top with a 34-18 win, allowing them to remain in first place in the ‘B’ Division.

Greatest Show on Turf rebounded since opening the season with two losses. They have since won their last and look to be back in their regular season form. They took on Hounds, who have been struggling to find their scoring touch. Hounds fell by a count of 13-0, their second straight shutout loss.

Trailer Park Boyz had dropped their first three games of the season and were looking to try and come out of this week’s game against the Bears with a win. The Bears have also been struggling and needed to get another win to stay out of the bottom of the division. However, the Trailer Park Boyz won this game by a count of 26-0 and now both teams sit at 1-3 for the season.

'C' Division:
The ‘C’ Division opened the week with a divisional triple header at Paul Gilbert Field.

Showtime took on Death From Above and really kept it close. Their game was tied at 7-7 at the half and it was anyone’s game. All it took was one solid drive by Death From Above to earn the win, 13-7.

Hurricanes took their two game winning streak into a game against Wolverines. They split their season series last season with the Wolverines taking the first game. This time around, Hurricanes drew first blood as they won the game convincingly by a count of 42-19.

The Unit were looking to complete their mission to even up their record against the winless Wolfpac. The Game was close all the way and the Wolfpac defence were keeping the team in the game. In the end, The Unit won 20-12.

The following night, the 3-0 Gang Green took on a hungry Bulldogs team. Bulldogs came out with a big appetite as they managed six interceptions on the game with four being returned for scores. Gang Green’s perfect record was shattered and both teams now sit with a 3-1 record, a three way tie for first with Hurricanes in the division.

'D' Division:
Stingers took a 0-4 record into their game against Sentinels who have won their past two games. Sentinels proved to be too tough an opponent for the Stingers, as they fell 32-0, their second shutout in a row.

Ghosts and Wolves hooked up in a possible match up of the ‘D’ Division Championship. Wolves took their 3-0 record into the game against a Ghosts teams that just had their perfect 4-0 record snapped last week at the hands of ThunderCats. Wolves were outscoring opponents 10-1 before this game, but the Ghosts’ defence proved tougher as the Wolves still pulled out with a victory, by a count of 20-7. Ghosts have now dropped their last two games.
