#CFC10 SUMMER RANKINGS – VARSITY (11): Defending champs fall! Who survived and who didn’t?

For the first time since 2012 the Hamilton Hurricanes will not be OFC Varsity Champions. The Hurricanes who have only lost once in three seasons fell to arch-rival Burlington 33-23, officially vacating their crown in the process. The Stampeders ran all over the defending champs, rushing for 417 yards and wearing down the Canes in the July heat. With the loss the Hurricanes dropped to the number eight spot but are sure to move as the playoffs unfold.

In other OFC action the Guelph Gryphons avenged their only loss of the season knocking off the Brantford Bisons 30-21 to set up a rematch with Burlington. Two short weeks ago the Gryphons knocked off the Stamps 35-28 in the regular season finale for both teams and their is every reason to believe this one will be as close or closer.

In the OFC North, the fourth ranked Toronto Jr. Argos continued their bid for an unbeaten season beating up on Sudbury 40-8. The Jr. Argos will face the Peterborough Wolverines who led by Devin Claypole’s three interceptions knocked off the Huronia Stallions 26-8, guaranteeing that there will be a new OFC North champ.

All the favourites advanced in the OVFL, with the “real” action starting this weekend. The Cumberland Panthers set up a dream matchup with crosstown rival Myers, by knocking off Metro Toronto 22-3 on the strength of two defensive touchdowns. With tremendous athletes on both sides of the ball the Panthers are a dangerous out and will cause Myers more problems than many anticipate. Adam Conference powerhouse Essex will begin their pursuit of the OVFL crown hosting the Cambridge Lions who hammered Sault Ste. Marie, for the second week in a row this time to the tune of 44-8.

There were not a whole lot of changes in this week’s #CFC10 rankings, but with the province’s heavyweights squaring off next weekend things should get interesting. After one week of the 2015 playoffs here are the #CFC10 Rankings.
