#CFC10 SUMMER RANKINGS – VARSITY (8): All kinds of movement as it comes down to the wire!!

The 2015 season keeps whizzing by with only two more weeks until the playoffs. With the big dance looming big on the horizon, teams throughout the OVFL and OFC were jockeying for position last weekend as the final push began for home field advantage in some cases and mere playoff survival in others . Week seven featured a lot of key #CFC10 games and subsequent movement in the #CFC10. London and Cambridge made their returns to the #CFC10 just in time for the playoffs, and both teams should be very tough “outs” on the way to the OVFL championships. Durham West won, but fell a few points out of the top 10 after only a one week stay and Metro Toronto fell hard to Kingston, also dropping out of the top 10 after a only one week.

With only two weeks left in the 2015 summer season here are the Week 8 #CFC10 Summer Rankings:

VARSITY (UNDER 20) TOP TEN RANKINGS – WEEK 8 (previous week’s ranking in parenthesis)

1) NIAGARA SPEARS (1) 6-0 OVFL (won 34-9 @ Hamilton Ironmen) The Niagara Spears looked awfully beatable in the first three quarters of last weekend’s 34-9 road win against Hamilton.  The Spears came out flat and found themselves trailing 9-6 after three quarters of play. Jordan Terrio scored from three yards out early in the fourth to put the Spears ahead and Zyer Harris sealed the deal with a pick six on the subsequent Hamilton drive. With SSM and Mississauga the two remaining games, the Spears biggest opponent may be complacency.  Next up: vs. SSM

2) OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS (2) 6-0 OVFL (won 27-7 @ Cumberland ) Daniel Barker led the way with two interceptions, while Kyrique Fletcher and Nick Urbanti each had picks of their own as the Myers defense held an explosive Cumberland offense to under 300 total yards and forced five turnovers in the process. Offensively, Jalla Lansanah averaged 12.4 yards per carry and Keenan Tanti added two scores in the win.  Next up: @ Metro Toronto

3) ESSEX RAVENS (4) 6-1 OVFL (won 44-8 vs. Brampton) Caleb Uddyback took an interception 66 yards to the house as the red-hot Ravens dominated every aspect of the game running away with the 44-8 win. After an week one loss to Niagara, the Ravens have run the table and look very capable of defending their Adam Conference title.  Next up: bye

4) GUELPH JR. GRYPHONS (5) 6-1 OFC  (won 30-4 @ Forest City) Guelph climbs a spot to #4 and can finish in first with a win next week against #7 Burlington. Easier said than done this Jr. Gryphons squad is definitely up to the task. After a season opening, week two loss to Brantford, the Jr. Gryphons have ripped off five in a row and are in any conversation regarding Ontario’s best.   Next up: vs. #7 Burlington

5) HAMILTON HURRICANES (7) 6-1 OFC (won 20-18 vs. Burlington) Impressive comeback win for the Hurricanes as the then 3rd ranked Stampeders jumped out to a 15-0 lead midway through the second quarter and looked to be running away with things. University of Windsor recruit Liam Putt led the comeback going 16 of 29 for 299 yards and a couple of scores.  Next up: @ Twin Cities

Hamilton 2015

6) TORONTO JR. ARGOS (7) 6-0 OFC (won 15-11 @ Huronia) They keep on winning the close ones with a four point win over a strong Huronia team. Toronto seems to play just well enough to win each week, playing to their opponents level….some might say that’s playing with fire. We’ll find out just how good they are next week as they get in the ring with #10 Peterborough, but for now they move up a notch to #7. Next up: vs. #10 Peterborough

7) BURLINGTON STAMPEDERS (3) 6-1 OFC  (lost 20-18 @ Hamilton) The Stamps tumble to #7 with a tight loss to the Hurricanes. Unfortunately things don’t get any easier with a trip to Guelph and date with the fourth ranked Gryphons up next.  Next up: @ #4 Guelph

8) CAMBRIDGE LIONS (NR) 4-2 OVFL (won 28-19 vs. Mississauga) The Cambridge Lions get back into the top 10 with the 28-19 win over the Warriors. Receiver Brad Vince had 11 catches for 115 yards and Gordan Lam hauled in a pair of tds in the win.  Next up: @ #9 London

9) LONDON JR MUSTANGS (NR) 4-2 OVFL (won 56-0 @ Etobicoke) The ‘Stangs rush for 358 yards in the win as they make their return to the #CFC10.  Next up: @ #9 Cambridge

10) PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES (8) 5-1 OFC (won 26-7 @ Sudbury) Peterborough bounces back with a 26-7 road win. Dylan Astrom, Nathan O’Keefe and Devon MacCallum all scored majors in the win.  Next up: @ #6 Toronto Jr. Argos

Dropped Out: Durham West Dolphins (10), Metro Toronto Wildcats (9)

***Honourable Mention***  Sault Ste. Marie Sabercats (OVFL), Kingston Grenadiers, Twin Cities Predators (OFC), Brantford Bisons (OFC), Durham West (OVFL), Metro Toronto Wildcats
