#CFC50 games of the week (juv. div. 1/1b) RECAP [9]: Undefeated Blizzard and Commandeurs are champs

Curé-Antoine-Labelle wins in OT, Triolet Harfangs slips and the Pointe-Lévy Corsaires squeeze in the playoffs.

École Sec. Curé-Antoine-Labelle Loups (5-3) vs Saint Jean-Eudes Condors (4-4) This was the matchup of the weekend and the Curé-Antoine-Labelle rookie QB, Xavier Tremblay did not disappoint. Tremblay delivered 16 passes for 232 yards, 5 touchdowns and the last one in overtime to win it 35-29. The Condors QB, Mathieu Forget, had a respectful day completing 14 out of 26 for 181 yards and 3 touchdowns. While generating enough momentum to carry his team into overtime, the hard working horse RB Émile Malenfant, who carried the rock 33 times for 221 yards and a touchdown, and teammates fell short. With the Harfangs’ loss, the Loups move up to third and will host Jean-Eudes in the quarter-final, while the Condors drop to fifth and will travel to Sherbrooke to face the Harfangs.

École Secondaire Triolet Harfangs (4-4) vs Académie Saint-Louis Arsenal (2-6) The Harfangs QB, Lukas Boulanger, produced 248 yards passing with 3 touchdowns and rushed for 157 yards and a major in their loss to the Arsenal. The Académie Saint-Louis defence managed to intercept Boulanger once and keep them from scoring the fifth touchdown needed to win the game. The Arsenal offence, commanded by QB Charles Goulet and propelled by RB Jacob Verret, controlled the clock and came away with a 34-28 win in their last game of the 2016 season. The Harfangs finish in fourth place, first time in their short history in the division 1, and will host the Condors next week for the first round of the playoffs.

Séminaire Saint-François Blizzard (8-0) vs Collège Jean-Eudes Aigles (3-5) The Aigles defence was relieved when RB Kalenga Muganda left the game with an injury, but the damage had been done. The Blizzard offence scored 38 points and QB Raphael Latulippe threw 3 touchdowns and a total of 120 yards, in the first half. The Jean-Eudes offence was incapable of penetrating the defensive barrier backed by Saint-François LB Étienne Amiot. The final score was 38-12 and the undefeated Saint-François Blizzard finish with a perfect record for the second straight year, which crowns them division champs and rewards them of a bye for the first round.

École Sec. Roger-Comtois Patriotes (1-7) vs Collège Notre-Dame Cactus (7-1) With a substitute QB, Justin Dupont who completed 3 out of 4 for 55 yards and 1 touchdown, the Cactus running game devoured the Patriotes defence. The Notre-Dame RB, Théodore Seaborn cumulated 94 yards on 7 carries, and his fellow teammates added 114 yards to control the clock and win with a 27-16 score.

Pointe-Lévy QB #7 Adrien Guay

École Sec. Pointe-Lévy Corsaires (3-5) vs Collège Charles-Lemoyne Dynamiques (3-5) The Dynamiques offence was able to move the ball with QB Gabriel Cyr-Dandurand completed 7 out of 13 for 104 yards and a touchdown, and RB Raphael Gentile who racked up 88 yards on 10 carries with 2 majors. Even with 4 sacks, the Charles-Lemoyne defence had a rough time trying to stop the Pointe-Lévy QB/RB Adrien Guay and teammates who prevailed with a 30-26 win. Both teams finish with a 3-5 record and squeeze in the first round.

Collège de Lévis Commandeurs (5-3) vs École Sec. Jacques-Rousseau Sphinx (0-8) There were no touchdowns scored in this game and the Commandeurs running game made the difference. Although the Sphinx defence did not make it easy for the Commandeurs, the Lévis RB Gabriel Leblond, rushed for 193 yards on 22 carries, QB/RB Tristan Blais rushed for 132 yards on 14 carries, and kicker Zacharie Baron-Béliveau punched a field goal for the 5-3 win. The Commandeurs will host Saint-Stanislas for the quarter-finals.

Saint-Joseph QB #9 Charles Cossette

Poly. Deux-Montagnes Centurions (1-7) vs Séminaire Saint-Joseph Vert et Or (5-3) The Vert et Or defence, ranked second in the division, contained the Centurions offence and limited QB Olivier Pineau, to only 65 yards passing and 15 rushing. The only Deux-Montagnes touchdown was registered by RB Vincent Desjardins, who summed up 32 yards for the day. The versatile Saint-Joseph QB/RB, Charles Cossette, maneuvered through the Deux-Montagnes defence like a master captain on a ship, and claimed their number 3 position with this 26-6 victory. The Vert et Or will host Pointe-Lévy next week.

École Sec. Saint-Stanislas Patriotes (4-4) vs Collège Laval Maraudeurs (8-0) The Patriotes offence, pulled by RB Edouard Wanadi who rushed for 106 yards and scored the only 2 touchdowns, managed to put up 13 points against the best defence. The Saint-Stanislas defence kepth QB Jonathan Sénécal to a mere 175 yards and 2 touchdowns passing. But Sénécal and the other RB’s, racked up a combined 195 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns to bring the final score to 36-13 and remain undefeated. The Maraudeurs are division champs and have earned a bye for the first round.
