Frontenac Falcons (4-0) @ Sydenham Golden Eagles (4-0)

The Golden Eagles, despite winning last year’s Kingston title, have never beaten Frontenac. They hope to change that today in the annual ‘Bubba Bowl’. GH Quarterback Brett Irwin, out with a wonky ankle, has “nearly recovered.” If not, Nate Thompson, the Grade-11 pivot will look to hook up with Receiver Travis Pascoal. Falcons boast the league’s top scoring offence, averaging 30 points per game, 10 ppg more than Sydenham. Running back Rob Carnegie leads the Falcons.

Holy Trinity Titans (0-1) @ Donald A. Wilson Gators (1-0)

These two Durham powerhouses played two epic games last season, with the Titans coming out on top by the slimmest of margins in both games. Today’s game is ‘for the cure‘ and the Gators hope to cure last year’s losses in the process. “I think the programs are very similar,” Adam Papadakos (Gators head coach) said of the two schools, which are both relatively new. “We’ve both done things like play games in the hotbed of football in Ohio, and both programs have been successful. It’s going to be a tremendous night for a phenomenal event.”

Tier I & II
#1 (Tier II) Austin O’Brien Crusaders vs. #4 (Tier I) Salisbury Sabres
Thursday, October 13, 7:30 p.m.Foote Field (Edmonton)

Who are these guys? Last year Austin O’Brien could barely win a game finishing 2-7. Now they are making a case for not only being the best team in Tier II but the best team in the Province at any Tier. An early season convincing win over Raymond and last weeks 28-28 thriller of a tie vs. Bev Facey – the previously #1 ranked team in Tier I – have gotten peoples attention. On the other side are the Salisbury Sabres who looked like world beaters two weeks ago in their 17-17 tie with Bev Facey but struggled last week vs. a game Tier III St. Albert Skyhawks team only pulling out the game in the last seconds. Does the Crusader train keep rolling or are the Sabres just the team to bring them down to earth?

Tier II
#2 Hunting Hills Lightning vs. #4 Sylvan Lake Lakers
Friday, October 14, 4:00 p.m. Fox Run J.H.S. (Sylvan Lake)

Who are these guys? Sylvan Lake must have something in the water there lately as the Lakers don’t seem to care what Tier they’re in, they just keep winning. Having won it all at the Tier IV level in 2007 they moved up a Tier in 2008 and came within 3 points of winning the Tier III Title. This year with the addition of kids from Innisfail who suspended their teams operations in the early season their official student population count has ballooned to Tier II levels and they just keep going. Their season so far to date has featured big wins over the Tier I sized schools in their league but now the supreme test as the defending Central Alberta League Champion and undefeated Lightning come to town. It’s their Tier II berth in Provincials the Lakers are gunning for so should be fun!

New Westminister Hyacks (1-0) @ Vancouver College Fighting Irish (1-0)

Week 2 of conference play in the AAA division has an intriguing match up with some great athletes and some great coaches. Coach Farhan Lalji’s squad is coming off a first game victory over Carson Graham. Offensive lineman Jeremy Wilson has turned some heads so far this year for New West. Justin Sanvido has been stellar for Coach Bernett’s group from VC nation. Should be a great one.
