CIS Previews and Predictions (13): 2014 Uteck Bowl…who is going to win?

CWUAA 2014 Hardy Cup Champions Manitoba Bisons

The Manitoba Bisons ended Calgary’s six year run as Canada West champions with a 27-15 win in last weekend’s 78th annual Hardy Cup. The Bisons took advantage of Calgary miscues as the Dinos turned the ball over seven times, fumbling it twice and throwing five interceptions (Hec Crighton nominee Andrew Buckley threw four picks, equally the number he threw during the ENTIRE 2014 season). With the win the Bisons head east to take on another streak-buster in the form of the second ranked Montreal Carabins. The Carabins shocked everyone but themselves with a 12-9 road win ending Laval’s eleven year run as Dunsmore Cup champs and more impressively stopping Laval’s streak of home wins at an amazing 70 (Ironically enough, the Carabins were the last team to leave PEPS stadium with a win). In front of a partisan crowd of almost 14,000 fans, the Carabins scored the road upset with an impressive defensive display. The Carabins defense held the Laval offense to 328 yards on the afternoon, impressive considering the fact that Laval averaged 565.8 yards per game in 2014.Β
