The British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) is pleased to announce the “BC Lions Players of the Week” for Week 1 of the season.

Offensive Player of the Week
Quarterback – #5 Steve Schuweiler – Kamloops Broncos

The Kamloops Broncos reached franchise highs in their 72-17 win in Chilliwack, setting records in points, total offensive yards and touchdowns.  Quarterback Steve Schuweiler had easily his best game since entering the league five years ago.  He set two new Broncos team records compiling 467 yards through the air and seven touchdowns.  He completed 13 of his 19 pass attempts.  His outstanding game gives him the nod for the BC Lions Offensive Player of the Week.

Defensive Player of the Week
Defensive Lineman – #99 Brock Gowanlock – Langley Rams

Despite losing their season opener in Nanaimo the Langley Rams defence played exceptional led by the BC Lions Defensive Player of the Week Brock Gowanlock.  The second year defensive lineman recorded four sacks, three solo tackles and had one assisted stop.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Kicker – #84 Thomas Huber – Okanagan Sun

The Okanagan Sun scored 78 points on Saturday night in their first win of the season.  Kicker Thomas Huber chipped in with 18 of those points.  He connected on a pair of field goals from 22 and 40 yards out, drilled all 10 converts and recorded two single point kicks that sailed through the end zone.  The 22 year old is the BC Lions Special teams Player of the Week.

All six teams are back in action this Saturday as the Kamloops Broncos (1-0) host the Langley Rams (0-1), the Okanagan Sun (1-0) visit the Valley Huskers (0-1) and the Westshore Rebels (0-1) celebrate their home opener with the Vancouver Island Raiders (1-0) in town.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
