KINGSTON, Ont. (August 17, 2010) – Former Queen's defensive lineman Matt Kirk of Kingston, Ont., was named the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Canadian Player of the Week for Week 7 of the 2010 CFL season.

I spent part of my family vacation last week in Toronto, Ontario, and it wasn’t until picking up a copy of the Globe and Mail, a Canadian newspaper, that I realized former Gamecocks star Cory Boyd was playing in the Canadian Football League.

The NFL has the CFL beat in many ways but it may not be more exciting than the smaller league where the bigger field makes for lots of action.

Edmonton Eskimos President and C.E.O. Rick Lelacheur spoke out last Monday about the team’s dismal 0-4 start to the season. Threatening to make changes if the club didn’t start winning. On Friday, the Eskimos squeaked out a hard fought 28-25 win over the B.C. Lions giving the team their first win of the season.

Former Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark worked out this weekend with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League, according to the Calgary Sun. Daryll Clark The Stampeders' coach and general manager is former Penn State quarterback John Hufnagel.
