Although relatively new to the sport, corner Devonte Ballantyne certainly has his sights set on reaching the next level.

”This is my first year of OVFL but in the future I plan on playing on a university team, studying law and on track to become a police officer, I want to serve and protect people,” says Ballantyne.

This confidence comes from his early success as a player, winning Team MVP with the Strathroy Saints of the Thames Valley Regional Athletic Association (TVRAA) and also enjoying some individual highlights.

β€œLast season, I’d say the highlight was our semi-final game where I scored two touchdowns as our quarterback and also filled up the stat sheet defensively,” says Ballantyne.

Ballantyne uses this as his motivation, learning about work ethic and the drive to be great. That drive also comes from other inspirations, according to Ballantyne, he has several people he looks up to and admires.

β€œMy mom Roxanne has always been there for me she’s someone I look up to, along with my trainer Brad who’s never quit on me when I thought I can’t do it and from a football standpoint Cam Newton because he’s worked hard to reach his goals and is continuing to do so,” adds Ballantyne. Β

It’s because of these people why Ballantyne himself works so hard, employing a strict training regimen in the gym but also not losing focus on his school studies.

β€œSchool is important to me and I want to be able to succeed in that as well as athletics,” says Ballantyne, who plays for the London Jr. Mustangs organization in the summer. Β “I hope to go to a university which helps me reach my goals.”

While he has no visits set up, Ballantyne is a younger kid and does have invites to summer camps by universities, he must use these as a springboard to start his recruitment process and should find himself being courted by many CIS schools.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
