DB Saoud ready to excel at the next level

Halifax Argos all-star defensive back and return man Jamil Saoud will soon be making his first post-secondary visits

Jamil Saoud was introduced to game of football at the age of six by his uncles and brother and since that time and been a standout on the field. Always supported by his family, Saoud has earned himself numerous awards and has been invited to multiple all star and cup games.

Through the first five years of his football career, Jamil was taught by Argos coach Quentin Tynes and credits him with helping to become the player he is today.

“Quentin Tynes taught me everything about football growing up,” he said.

That tutelage and support is now paying off for Saoud who will soon be choosing what post-secondary opportunity best suits him and his goals. Saoud is set to graduate in 2017 and while he is yet to make any official visits, he does expect to be making some soon.

Some of Saoud’s achievements include in playing for Nova Scotia as part of the Canada Cup in from 2013 to 2016, being named as captain for the 2016 team. He was named bantam Argos MVP for the 2013 season, named an NSSAFFL all-star and rookie of the year in 2014.

The level of success achieved by Saoud at his age comes as no surprise when you find out the training schedule he maintains and how committed he is to succeeding at every level. Jamil trains year-round at the Ultimate Athlete Company under Coach Alan Wetmore while also participating in Wetmore’s SKAT program during the summer.

“This season to improve I plan on building size without losing any of my speed and quickness.”
