Dinos make return appearance at Laval

Laval – Nine months after their last visit, the Calgary Dinos are back in Quebec to face the Laval Rouge et Or in the now traditional pre-season game this Saturday at 1:00pm at Laval University’s TELUS Stadium.

Laval disposed the Albertans by a score of 25-14 in the 49th TELUS Vanier Cup which was played in QuĆ©bec last November. A few months earlier, the Dinos were also the visitors at the exhibition game, which was also won by Glen Constantin’s team 32-3.

The Calgary Dinos are already in Quebec City in anticipation of Saturday’s game. Joint practices are also on the schedule tomorrow.

Interestingly, five of the last eight Rouge et Or preseason opponents met them again in the Vanier Cup final. This was the case in 2006 (Saskatchewan), 2008 (Western), 2011 (McMaster), 2012 (McMaster) and 2013 (Calgary). The phenomenon will not be repeated this year, as the CWUAA Champions will visit RSEQ Champions in the Uteck Bowl Game which is the national semifinals.

A young group that enjoyed the first perfect season in the history of the team last year, the Dinos return the majority of their student-athletes in 2014, suggesting a seasoned team. Calgary will try to get hold of a seventh straight conference title.

Six Dinos who were selected as All-Stars in 2013 are back with the team, led by Canada West MVP and third-year running back Mercer Timmis, linebacker Doctor Cassama, defensive back Cyril Iwanegbe and kicker Johnny Mark. Also returning are offensive linemen Sukh Chungh and Sean McEwen.

The Dinos will begin their regular season on Sept. 5th against the Alberta Golden Bears.
