Dinos open 2013 football schedule at Laval

CALGARY – A non-conference tilt with the defending Vanier Cup champions kicks off the University of Calgary’s quest for an unprecedented sixth consecutive Canada West football title when the 2013 season gets underway this fall.

After opening fall training camp on Saturday, Aug. 17, the Dinos will head to Quebec City to face the Université Laval Rouge et Or in non-conference action on Aug. 24. It’s the same stadium the Dinos hope their 2013 season will end in as well – Stade Telus-UL will host the 49th Vanier Cup championship game on Nov. 23.

Conference play opens a week later with the Dinos paying a visit to Vancouver to face the UBC Thunderbirds on Aug. 31. A week later they’re in Regina to face the Rams in a rematch of last season’s Hardy Cup before finally opening at home in Week 3 of the season to cap off a span of four games in four provinces to open the campaign.

KICKOFF VIII, the University of Calgary’s annual homecoming celebration, will see the Dinos face the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday, Sept. 14 at McMahon Stadium. Dinos fans will also see the Manitoba Bisons (Sept. 20), Regina Rams (Oct. 18), and UBC Thunderbirds (Oct. 25) in Calgary, while the Dinos will play their other two road games at Alberta (Sept. 28) and Saskatchewan (Oct. 4).

The Canada West playoffs open Nov. 1-2 with the two semi-finals, followed by the 77th Hardy Cup on Saturday, Nov. 9. The conference champion will host the Ontario champion in the Mitchell Bowl Nov. 16, with the winner of that game advancing to the Vanier Cup in Quebec City.

The Dinos and the Calgary Stampeders have teamed up to offer Calgary fans the best football action anywhere this fall. All Stampeders season tickets also include tickets to all four Dinos home games, as well as a season pass to the Calgary Colts. Stampeders season tickets are on sale now by calling the Stamps Ticket Office at (403) 289-0258 or toll-free 1-800-667-3267.

The five-time defending Hardy Cup champs hit the field for spring camp May 1-5 at McMahon Stadium, capped off by the Red-White scrimmage on Sunday, May 5.
