FCC Preview: After 9 years , NB is back in the Football Canada Cup

You only get one chance at making impressions, team NB is looking to make the best out of their opportunity.

For Team New Brunswick, it will be their first appearance in the Football Canada cup since 2002 when their team made the trip to Ottawa, ONT.

Football in New Brunswick has grown in the past 3 years as the efforts of Football NB are starting to show around the province. The Team New Brunswick coaching and support staff prides themselves around this team and feel like if this is a very big step for football in the province.

Executive director Olivier Eddie feels that this high performance team is something the entire province can be proud of.

“This team of elite athletes promotes football in our province, it also gives younger athletes something to look forward to.Β Β It’s a great program to be a part of “.

New Brunswick is the only province to offer both 12 and 10 man football at the high school level. The 10 man game was made for smaller schools with less students and players to have a competitive league of their own. It is very similar to the 12 man game with only 3 offensive lineman instead of having 5.

The effort and the coaching staff around team New Brunswick has made the players better both off and on the field.

New Brunswick will be led by their starting Quarterback Jeremie Lebans , a grade 11 student at l’ ecole L’odyssee , a high school with french speaking students in Moncton, NB.

Jeremie thinks that his team has been putting many hours of work and it should show on the field.

“We have become better as a team, learned many things and i think if we play as a team, good things will come” said Lebans.

He is excited for the Opportunity to participate in his first football Canada cup. For Lebans, it’s a dream come true.

“It is something every kid dreams about , playing football on the national level and representing all your teammates and friends back home, were looking to make the most of it” .

Team New Brunswick played 2 pre tournament games vs team Nova Scotia, they fell short in both but were in the game to the final whistle. Nova Scotia is coming off a strong tournament in 2011 and New Brunswick showed they could easily contend with them. The games were also a great opportunity for the coaching staff to get the feeling of coaching on the national stage.

They open the tournament against defending champion team Quebec, this will be a great test for NB as they get to see how they match up with last years best.

Team NewΒ Brunswick will be looking to surprise Quebec with their fast paced run and gun offense. No opponent knows what to expect from this squad and they will be looking to take advantage of the situation. Team New Brunswick also has various good athletes on defence as they showed versus Nova Scotia. They have 3 very strong linebackers that could cause problems to Quebec’s running game.

With the stage being set for Kickoff , it will be a great time to showcase there talent and show the nation what they can do.

This Tournament is highly competitive and great things are yet to come, some great football to be played and some memories that these young athletes will never forget.
