Five SFU players named to GNAC All-Conference teams; Capicciotti named Co-Defensive Player of the Year

Burnaby, BC – Runningback Bo Palmer (North Vancouver, BC) along with four of his SFU teammates have been named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Conference team while Justin Capicciotti (Toronto, ON) has been named Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Palmer was one of two runningbacks named to the first team of all-stars. He was a key part of the SFU offence this season, recording 1219 rushing yards including a 180 yard performance in the team’s first GNAC win against Dixie State in October.

Joining Palmer on the first team of offensive all-stars is offensive lineman Matthias Goossen (Richmond, BC), who was one of five GNAC offensive lineman named to the first team of all-stars.

Capicciotti was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year along with Gavin Drake of Western Oregon University. The senior defensive lineman was also named to the first All-Conference team on the defensive side of the ball.

He finished first in the GNAC in sacks this season with 10 and also ranked in the top 10 in tackles with 66, just eight behind the conference leader, who happened to be SFU teammate Casey Chin.

Chin (Port Moody, BC) was one of four linebackers named to the All-Conference second team. The sophomore led the GNAC in tackles this season with an average of 8.2 per game (74 total tackles).

Rounding out the Clan’s All-Conference players is linebacker Daniel Martin (Maple Ridge, BC). Martin finished his senior season with 43 tackles for the Clan.

With the 2011 season in the books, the Clan will now wrap up the campaign with the SFU football alumni Legacy Dinner, where team awards will be distributed, this Thursday.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
