Football BC announces Roden as head coach for under-16 Team BC to compete at Red River Cup

BURNABY – Football BC has announced Sean Roden as the head coach of the provincial under-16 tackle team (U-16 Team BC) that will compete at the Red River Cup in Winnipeg, Manitoba in July 2013.

“I am honoured and excited to have the opportunity to work with premier athletes, coaches and staff in the province on the U-16 Team BC,” said Roden.

Roden brings a wealth of experience to the head coaching position for Team BC. He has spent the last 10 years with Football Nanaimo, including the last eight as the head coach of their Midget team. As head coach of the Midget Redmen, Roden has guided the club to a playoff berth in every season he has been on the sidelines and also won a VMFL championship in 2009.

Roden was also the recipient of the Community Coach of the Year at the 2010 Orange Helmet Awards and was also named VMFL Coach of the Year that same season. He has also been part of the coaching staff for the VMFL Star Bowl team for the last seven straight years.

“Sean has been an enthusiastic supporter of our provincial programs and we are excited that he is joining us to spearhead the U-16 program,” said Football BC Technical Director, Dino Geremia. “We feel the experience and knowledge he has with the Canadian game, as well as his track record of success with the Nanaimo Redmen, makes him the ideal candidate for this position and will give our U-16 team the best opportunity to succeed at the Red River Cup.”

Football BC will be hosting a by-invitation only tryout camp over the Victoria Day Long Weekend (May 18-20) in Richmond, BC where players will have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the U-16 Team BC.

The final roster for the U-16 Team BC will be announced at a later time.
