Golden Hawks land Regina recruit (VIDEO)

Regina running back newest recruit to join OUA team’s 2015 class.

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks have announced that Jamal Hooker has signed with the football program.

Hooker, the 5’7, 180 pound running back from Regina, Saskatchewan, will join the team for the 2015 OUA season.

Ultimately, the Golden Hawks saw glimpses of OUA MVP running back Dillon Campbell in their newest commitment.

“Jamal is a very electrifying player, who can go the distance any time he touches the ball,” commented Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds.  “Watching him last summer, he really stood out.”

“His stature, speed and strength remind us quite a bit of Dillon.  Adding him alongside running back Osayi Iginuan in this 2015 recruiting class we feel like we have Thunder and Lightning!”

This past November, Hooker guided the Dr. Martin Leboldus Golden Suns of the Regina Intercollegiate Football League (RIFL) to their third consecutive Provincial 4A Championship.  In 2014, he amassed 1055 rushing yards on a 130 carries and scored seven rushing touchdowns.  Additionally, Hooker also racked up 313 yards on 14 receptions and scored seven receiving touchdowns.

There were several factors which tipped the scale in the Golden Hawks favour for Hooker.

“I’ve always wanted to leave Saskatchewan and Ontario has always been appealing to me,” expressed the Regina running back.  “It has a reputable business school and I think the coaches are very intelligent and have good intentions in everything they do.”

“I saw with their running back Dillon Campbell, who is a crazy stud, leaving that I should come.  The Golden Hawks recruiting me after such a great running back says a lot.”
