Laurier lands CEGEP recruit (VIDEO)

Mississauga wide receiver joins OUA team’s 2015 class.

Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks announced yesterday that Zeph Fraser has signed with the football program for the 2015 OUA season.

The 6’0, 180 pound wide receiver from Mississauga, Ontario is currently completing a stint with CEGEP Division 1 team, Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars.  Previous to the Cougars, Fraser has also suited up for St. Joan of Arc Angels of the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) and the Mississauga Warriors of the Ontario Varsity Football League.

“We are extremely excited about adding someone with the skills of Zeph to our receiving core,” commented Golden Hawks Head Coach Michael Faulds.  “He was a good player in high school in Mississauga and last year we went out to Lennoxville to watch him play in CEGEP with the Champlain Cougars.”

“The quality of football in CEGEP will make his transition to the OUA easier.”

Other schools Fraser considered included Western, Ottawa and Guelph.  When it came down to it, the Golden Hawks provided the best chance for him to flourish as a player as well as a student.

“My choice was not easy because there were a few universities that came close,” expressed the Ontario wide receiver.  “However, Wilfrid Laurier University became my number one pick because after reviewing each team my skills will be utilized more at Laurier.”
“Also the coaching staff has been very supportive and I believe they will help me develop and grow as a player.  I look forward to playing on the Laurier team and feel that the coaching staff and myself will work together to make this an easy transition for me. Laurier University will provide me with a great education for my future career. The campus and the atmosphere of this school gave me a warm feeling which I really enjoyed.”

Recruiting and Special Teams Coordinator Dwayne Cameron is equally thrilled of Fraser’s commitment and said the Golden Hawks are headed in a positive direction when it comes to their 2015 recruitment drive.

“Zeph is a very smooth route runner, he has solid hands and he is a very willing and physical blocker,” added Cameron.  “To land a player of Zeph’s calibre this early speaks to the momentum that continues to build with recruits about Laurier.”
