Marauders set to hit the field for Spring Camp

While the kick-off to the 2015 OUA football season is still months away, Β the defending league champion McMaster Marauders will hit the field at Ron Joyce Stadium for spring training camp on Saturday, March 28, with workouts running until Thursday, April 9, 2015.

Under CIS regulations, football teams are limited in the number of off-season practice sessions that can be held for the full squad, so spring camp has become a crucial part of preparation heading toward the start of OUA conference action.

“It’s a little different for us this year as we introduce a new defensive coordinator,” said Head Coach Stefan Ptaszek. “But it’s also exciting as we get to watch that relationship develop between Coach (Joe) Sardo and our current personnel.Β  I’m also looking forward to seeing our young quarterbacks assume the burden of running the show on offense.”

At spring camp, there are no depth charts and the players get the chance to compete against each other with equal reps spread out among the roster.Β Β  Without the pressure of actual competition looming, it allows the players to showcase their talents, and it gives the coaching staff the opportunity to evaluate who has made the biggest strides in off-season training.

“Spring Camp is important in identifying and acknowledging the players that have been working the hardest during the off-season and are progressing the most in getting ready to play this fall,” added Ptaszek.

Spectators are welcome to attend any of the team’s spring camp workouts at Ron Joyce Stadium.
