Matt Seymour 1

BRITISH COLUMBIA:

West Vancouver Highlanders at New Westminster Hyacks

Friday September 19th, 2014, 7:30PM, Mercer Stadium

The Hyacks (EX 2-1) put on a offensive show last weekend when they put up 30 points over the No. 5 ranked W.J. Mouat Hawks to close out their exhibition campaign. In this week’s game of the week matchup, as the regular season schedule gets underway, they will look to continue their momentum against the West Vancouver Highlanders (EX 1-0).

The Hyacks have several standout players but receiver Matt Seymour drew the attention of many fans last weekend with his versatility and ability to play on both sides of the ball guiding his team to a 30-14 victory over the aforementioned Hawks.

The Highlanders, however, won’t be an easy pushover. They proved they’re capable of putting up some points as well. In their one-and-only exhibition contest to date, they knocked off Sentinel 35-28 two weeks ago.

The Highlanders will look to quarterback Finn Morales, who went 13-of-21 and threw for 242 yards in the victory over Sentinel, and wide receiver Charlie Welsh, who made seven catches for 169 yards and had two scores in that same game to be the offensive leaders against the Hyacks.

The Hyacks and Highlanders met once during the 2013 season with the Hyacks coming away with a dominating 27-6 victory in a game that was played at Mercer Stadium despite having originally been scheduled to take place at the Highlanders’ home field.

ALBERTA:

CFC#11 Henry Wise Wood Warriors at CFC#1 Notre Dame Pride

Friday, September 19, 7:00 p.m., Hellard Field at Shouldice Park, Calgary

It may seem like a no brainer to promote this game but it’s actually a tough choice to make this the game of the week with so many other great games going on. You can’t beat the passion and atmosphere at the annual Raymond – L.C.I clash this Friday in Raymond at the same time, especially when both teams are ranked.  However, the Warrior/Pride clash gets the nod because regardless of the rankings this is the first time in the modern history of high school football  when we get a re-match of last year’s Provincial Tier I Final during the regular season.  The Warriors might not want to re-visit last year’s 65-11 pounding at the hands of Notre Dame  in the Big Dance and they still have an uphill climb ahead of them but we’ll see how both teams are this year.  Always a great atmosphere at Shouldice on a Friday night but this one will be special.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame Pride 40, Henry Wise Wood Warriors 17

SASKATCHEWAN:

St. Joseph Guardians at CFC#46 Aden Bowman Bears

Thursday September 18th, 2014 @ 7:30PM

In a Saskatchewan 4A battle, CFC#46 Aden Bowman Bears will host St. Joseph Guardians. The last time these two teams met was on October 24th, 2013 in the 4A quarterfinals where the Bears won the battle 38-21.  After losing two consecutive games in the 2013 season to the Bears, the Guardians hope that third time is the lucky charm.  As for the Bears, the team is looking to continue having the Guardians number.

PREDICTION: Aden Bowman Bears 32, St. Joseph Guardians 20

Steinbach Sabres WHSFL 2014

MANITOBA:

Steinbach Sabres at Kelvin Clippers

Thursday September 18th, 2014 @ 5:00PM

One of the unpredictable national games of the week, this looks to be an exciting Kas Vidruk ‘AA’ Division duel.  After spending the 2013 season competing in the John Potter ‘AAA’ Division, the Kelvin Clippers have returned back to this tier.  They are hosting a tough team in Steinbach Sabres whose motto for the 2014 season is to “Be Better”.  The Sabres are fueled by motivation and have 2013 WHSFL second leading rusher Mack Ginter-Boyce, receiver Rhys Mowatt as well as offensive linemen Chad Falk and Torston Froese as part of their offensive arsenal.  Additionally, Tyler Chornopyski, Graham Cruise, Julian Clibbery, Dustin Erickson and Brydon Watts will anchor the Sabres defense. This will be an intriguing contest as both teams are not familiar with each other.

PREDICTION: Steinbach Sabres 20, Kelvin Clippers 17

Huron Heights 2013 YRAA champions

ONTARIO:

CFC#8 Huron Heights Warriors versus Bill Crothers Colts

Friday September 19th, 2014

It’s deja vu for archrivals CFC#8 Huron Heights Warriors and Bill Crothers Colts as both teams meet for their opening game of the 2014 YRAA campaign.  However, it wasn’t too long ago these two rivals last met – November 16th, 2013 in the YRAA Championship Final. The Warriors came out on top in that affair 43-7 en route to an OFSAA Bowl victory.

The Warriors offense will be led by quarterbacks Luke Griese and 2013 Junior MVP Colin Grant.  Additionally, fullback Gregg Anderson and offensive lineman Mike DelTin will led the unit.  On defense, cornerback Graeme Shreeve and halfback Graham Legrow will be key to the Warriors success.

Both teams are fired up and the atmosphere alone will make this an exciting must see game.

PREDICTION:  Huron Heights Warriors 35, Bill Crothers Colts 14

Philippe Archambault 1

CFC # 27 Upper Canada College Blues @ CFC# 36 St. Andrew’s College Saints

Saturday September 20th, 2014 @ 3:30PM (HOMECOMING)

There is nothing like a Homecoming game that sets up a marquee match up against two rivals and boast CFC 100 players on both teams. CFC#36 St. Andrew’s College will host CFC#27 Upper Canada College Blues.  This is one national high school rivalry that has stood the test of time and always lives up to the billing.  All eyes will be on CFC#4 and recent University of Minnesota Gophers commit Jonathan Femi-Cole (Saints) and CFC 100 linebacker Philippe Archambault (Blues).

The Saints will be looking for redemption as they lost to the Blues in the CISAA Championship last November 30-25. Another chapter is about to be scripted in this rivalry in Aurora.

PREDICTION: St. Andrew’s College Saints 25, Upper Canada College Blues 22

Francois Rocheleau

QUEBEC:

CFC#18 Seminaire Saint Francois Blizzard at CFC#3 College Notre-Dame Cactus

Friday September 19th, 2014 @ 07:30PM

In another battle of two CFC 50 squads, CFC#18 Seminaire Saint-Francois Blizzard will be looking to unseat the undefeated CFC#3 College Notre-Dame Cactus.  For the Blizzard, the team would also like to erase the memory of losing to the Cactus in the Bol D’Or Championship last November 35-14.

For the Cactus, Lancelot Rivard comes into this game after a notable performance last week against Roger Comtois Patriots as he tallied a major and rushed for 153 yards on five carries (average of 30.6 yards per carry).  Francois Rocheleau will be a force on offense and special teams, which will be a task in itself for the Blizzard to contain.

As for the Blizzard, the team is hoping that William Vermette will have another offensive tear like he did the week before as he scored five touchdowns (four rushing and five receiving) and rushed for 155 yards on 12 carries against the Triolet Harfangs.

PREDICTION: College Notre-Dame Cactus 27, Seminaire Saint-Francois Blizzard 24

CPA vs SJA 5

NOVA SCOTIA:

CFC # 42 Sir John A MacDonald Flames at Charles P Allen Cheetahs

Friday September 19th, 2014 @ 7:00PM

CLICK HERE TO SEE GAME PREVIEW ARTICLE

In one of the most highly anticipated games of the 2014 NSSAFFL Nova Division season, CFC#42 Sir John A MacDonald Flames will visit Charles P Allen Cheetahs in a rematch of the 2013 Provincial Tier 1 Championship.

Thomas Hoyt was limited on offense (50 yards) in the Flames victory against the Cobequid Educational Centre (CEC) Cougars. However, that will not be the case against the Cheetahs.  Josh DeGruchy will be the one to watch for on the Flames defense.

The Cheetahs will look for Will Chamberlain to build on last week’s performance (three touchdowns, 128 rushing yards).  Moreover, Greg Hutchins could be the difference in this game as his field goal and conversion accuracy has been consistent.  When Hutchins is on, the Cheetahs are unstoppable.  Matt Bayne and Brad Bevan will be the ones to watch for on defense.

After the disappointment of losing the Provincial Tier 1 Championship, the Cheetahs want to erase the memory of that game.  This game could be a preview of this year’s Championship but could also determine which team may end up with home field advantage down the regular season stretch. The intrigue and storylines surrounding this matchup makes this one of the must see games of the year in Nova Scotia football.

PREDICTION: Charles P Allen Cheetahs 24, Sir John A MacDonald Flames 20

Moncton versus Riverview

NEW BRUNSWICK:

Riverview Royals at Moncton Purple Knights

Friday September 19th, 2014 @ 7:00PM

In a rematch of the 2013 Provincial 12-Man quarterfinals, the Moncton Purple Knights will be looking to avenge that 25-3 loss they faced at the hand of the Riverview Knights.

While it may be a different roster on both teams, the rivalry is still the same.

PREDICTION:  Moncton Purple Knights 30, Riverview Royals 23
