• East dominates West in Ottawa high school all star game

    In the 1st quarter, Jordan Maxwell (top picture) of the St. Joes Jaguars hooked up on a 30-yard TD pass to Franco-Cité Receiver Mathieu Gagnon to open the scoring. The East bobbled a 3rd down punt deep in their zone and conceded a safety to make it 7-2. In fact, the West reciprocated a safety shortly after to make it 9-2 for the East after one quarter.

    In the second quarter, Franco Cité QB Kevin Bois scampered for a 20-yard touchdown run to make it 16-2 at the half. St. Peter’s Knights Punter/Kicker Sean Decloux nailed a 30-yard field goal to make it 19-2. On a side note, Decloux had a nice evening punting the ball in a challenge environment, as Mother Nature wanted to announce her presence in the 37th annual Athletes in Action started by former Ottawa Rough Riders Wayne Tosh, Gerry Organ and Wayne Tosh.

    The game finished on a strong defensive play when St. Patrick Fighting Irish half back Riley Baines put an exclamation mark on a 43-yard touchdown return.

    In closing, it was a great two weeks for the players and coaches who set up their playbook and special teams assignments in a crash course type format. Plus, the Athletes in Action organization should be proud of the event, as the kids had a great experience and it was a great networking opportunity for the University and High School coaches to grow the game in the Nations Capital.
