    Watt takes unusual route to the pros

    NORTH Vancouver's Spencer Watt was drafted by the CFL's Toronto Argonauts last week, going in the third round of the Canadian draft, 18th overall.

    You might think the former Windsor secondary and Simon Fraser University wide receiver would be a little bummed out about being picked by a team that finished 3-15 last season, but that is far from the case.

    Simon Fraser University continued to stand out amongst its peers following the Canadian Football League draft Sunday.
    Since 1965, no other university has produced as many grads into the league as the Burnaby Mountain program.

    TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama Crimson Tide found the best way to make sure Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson had enough chances to carry the ball in the spring game was to split them up.

    The impressive tailback tandem each turned in big plays for opposing sides in the Crimson Tide's spring game on Saturday. When Richardson wasn't catching a 28-yard touchdown pass, Ingram was racing 60 yards to set up a score. They pretty much picked up where they left off in rushing for 100-plus yards apiece in the national championship game win over Texas.

    The annual tweaks to the rulebook by the NCAA, approved Thursday, include the outlawing of wedge blocking on kickoff returns.

    Wedge returns call for three or more players, side by side, leading the return man in what was, in essence, a human shield. Kickoff teams, in turn, often employed what was known as a wedge buster, whose job it was to collide with the wedge and disrupt it enough for others to more easily make a tackle.
