Beginning football at the age of seven, Reid has built up a resume full of experience and achievements in his eleven year football career. He's been fortunate to gain that experience in the Niagara football area.

"The Niagara Region has a very good program that focuses on the basics and teaching/learning skills in the first few years and plays and programs in the following years," comments the star quarterback.

After playing in the Niagara Region Minor Football Association (NRMFA) with the Welland Buccaneers, Reid moved over to suit up with his high school team, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. This season, the standout got to experience a triumphant, yet emotional highlight of his football career while playing for the team.

"Our high school team, Notre Dame College High School, won the Quad A Championships after several years of placing second," explains Reid, who has played with the junior varsity and varsity Niagara Spears teams of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). "The win was made that much sweeter because this year was my first year back since I blew out my knee and had surgery September 2010."

Moreover, the graduating pivot has received some significant honours. For his outstanding play on the field with the Spears, Reid was named to the Adams Division all-star team in the OVFL. Additionally, he has selected to the Golden Horseshoe team that will play in the all-star game on May 6th at McMaster University.

There have been many important influences on Reid's football career. The chief one has been minor football league coach Rick Vujasic.

"Rick was always positive, even if he wasn’t happy with our performance," comments the star quarterback. "He taught us to never give up and that “TEAM” is the most important thing."

"He taught me lots about position, plays and technique. I doubt I would have lasted this long, nor grown to love the sport without Rick."

Fighting Irish offensive coordinator Greg Valovich has been another coach that has shaped Reid's playing career.

"Sunny (aka Greg) taught me many important things about the quarterback position, especially how to read the offense and is easily one of the biggest factors in my football career," adds the graduating star.

In life, his family has been the steadiest influence on him.

"My mother, father and brother have taught me many valuable lessons and instilled in me the values that I have," says Reid who comes from a large family and grew up on a farm in Niagara Falls, Ontario. "They are firm believers that respect is essential and from that grows trust and from that love."

Reid is not one to sit down idly. Other than football, he is part of the Social Climate Club at his school. Furthermore, he gives back to his community by volunteering regularly at soup kitchens and shelters in his spare time. Reid takes part in sports aside from football and enjoys outdoor activities.

As for career aspirations, the graduating athlete would like to pursue a successful career in civil engineering or forestry conservation. He has applied to schools that will not only give him the best opportunities to possible to pursue this dream but that are rich in football tradition.

No matter what he does accomplish in the future, Reid will take something he's learned from football and use it in other aspects of life.

"Loyalty and respect towards my family, friends, teammates, and the important people in my life would be the biggest lessons I have learned from football that I can apply to everyday life," comments Reid.
