OFC: Varsity Stampeders lose a ‘nail-biter’ in season opener

While the summer football season kicked off this past weekend for the OFC, the Burlington Stampeders were involved in a nail-biter to open the season against the Twin Cities Predators.

With a much anticipated opener, fans of both sides showed their support right till the final whistle, as they’re was approximately 200 in attendance. Nerves prevailed throughout the beginning of the game, but as it progressed, players started to loosen up immensely. This was the type of game that makes you glued to your chair, as points were exchanged consistently between both clubs.

Coach Sean Williamson knew that his team needed to start off on the right foot, to make it easier on the team going forward. Numerous players played with superior heart and fought till the last whistle. Aaron Veltri of the Stampeders, who was awarded player of the game, had a superb game, finishing up with a couple touchdowns to give his team a strong push towards the end. Quarterback Adam Christopher did as much as he could also, helping out with two passing touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, Reid Denstedt, had a crucial safety that kept the Stamps alive and hungry to take the win. Even with the fans roaring in the last few minutes, it wasn’t enough as the Twin Cities Predators prevailed, 29-28.
