Ontario: Nelson (CFC #9) defeats Trinity (CFC #16) in the rain

The Nelson Lords defeated the Holy Trinity Titans for the first time since the opening game of 2009. In horrible weather conditions which saw torrential downpours for most of the game Nelson held off a strong fight from the Titans.

Will Finch opened the scoring with a 1-yard plunge to cap and impressive early drive but the Lords would miss the 2-point conversion attempt. Holy Trinity bounced back before half-time with a touchdown from Declan Cross to take a 7-6 lead at the break, on a drive that was continued only due to Lords penalties. Nelson rallied once again in the third quarter with an 85-yard punt return touchdown from Doug Corby and 2-pt conversion from Blake Culver to restore a 14-7 lead. The Lords defence took over from there and Victor Fasullo would add an insurance field goal late in the 4th to seal the victory. Halton football fans will be happy to know that this rivalry is stronger than ever!!

Up next for Nelson will be a visit from the Loyola Hawks at Nelson Stadium on Thursday Sept 29th at 2:30pm.
