Aidan Peterson has been a starting defensive tackle each season he has played, usually being the youngest and undersized lineman.

Peterson started with one season in the Cumberland Panthers’ Mites program before making the move to the National Capital Amateur Football Association’s (NCAFA), where he has played with the tyke Cumberland Panthers for two years.

This passed season, the defensive tackle and his team captures the ‘B’ Cup City Championship.

Over the past year the Panther’s love and respect for the game has grown, and he has dedicated his spare time to performance and positional camps to improve for the 2015 season.

During the offseason Peterson participated in Gridiron Peak performance, as well as other mini camps around the city of Ottawa to keep on top of his game. He also plays soccer in the Cumberland United Futsal league for conditioning and fun.

Peterson’s goals for the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) are to make the Eastern Minor team in his first year trying, and hopefully learn and improve his game. As one of the youngest in his position, he keeps humble yet hopeful for a chance to show his skills, and then show improvement for the future.

The Panthers’ standout is passionate about competing in the sport for a few reasons.

“I love to play football because of the team atmosphere,” said Peterson, who also enjoys the mental and physical battle on the field.

He loves the challenge of a double team, especially when he knows he has a size disadvantage, and he loves that you can hit someone as hard as possible as long as it is done properly.

The defensive tackle sets small goals for himself throughout the season and as he accomplishes them his confidence rises along with his love for the game.
