Dominic Florentino was introduced to football in the fifth grade, but has been playing as part of a club for four seasons.

“Ever since I started playing quarterback, I have enjoyed it so much that I aspire to play this sport for as long as I possibly can and joining the Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) is just another step to that same goal,” said Florentino.

The quarterback has played for both the Oakville Titans of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) and the Halton Cowboys of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) for four years.

Moreover, Florentino also plays for the Holy Trinity Titans of the Halton Secondary School Athletic Association (HSSAA).

“I was only a starting quarterback for one full season, but I believe that I can play with the best talent and go on to play at the next level due to my work ethic and determination,” adds the Titan quarterback.

During the offseason, Florentino works out with his wide receivers to run routes and perfect timing, since the quarterback recognizes the importance of being on the same page as the receivers. He also works with the rest of the offence to help improve his athletic and football ability.

After school the Titan also goes to the weight room in order to maintain the ability to tolerate playing such a physically demanding sport and to stay healthy throughout the season.

“My goals for the OPC are to get my name recognized among potential CIS schools, which I hope to be a part of,” explains the quarterback. “I also hope to develop as a player and use the coaching I am given and apply it to my own style of play.”

“At the end of the day, I am trying to be a better quarterback thank I was yesterday [and] I believe the OPC is a great opportunity for me to do that [because I am] able to compete with the best.”

One of Florentino’s goals is to make the CFC 100 list in his graduating year, as he would consider it an honour to be on a prestigious list with so many talented athletes.

The Titan loves to play football because it is the ultimate team sport, it is aggressive and the mental aspect plays a major factor in how you play.

“I love the relationships teammates have with each other, and I love the fact that you need everyone to be at their best to be able to become a great team,” continued Florentino.  “I love playing quarterback and I have a passion to be the best quarterback to ever play the game.”
