OUA Players of the Week 6: Granberg, Monroe, Falvo


HAMILTON, Ont. ā€“ The following athletes have been named OUA Football Players of the Week for the period ending October 16, 2011.

OFFENCE: Ryan Granberg, Queenā€™s Gaels, Running Back
Granberg tallied 240 yards and four touchdowns on 31 carries against the Waterloo Warriors on October 15. After his latest performance, Granberg moved into the OUA rushing lead as he now has 871 yards on 134 carries in just six games this season. Granbergā€™s 145.2 rushing yard per game average is the highest total in all of Canada, while he leads the CIS in total rushing yards with his 871 yards in addition to his eight touchdowns which rank him third in the nation.


DEFENCE: Dorian Monroe, Toronto Varsity Blues, Defensive Back
Fourth-year defensive back Dorian Munroe recorded six tackles, one forced fumble and one sack versus the No. 1 Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. The Miami, Fla., native was a key contributor to Torontoā€™s defensive unit that held the No. 1 offence in the province to only two touchdowns on the day. Five of Munroeā€™s tackled came on Westernā€™s top running back of the day, Nathan Riva, as did the forced fumble. Munroe, who joined the Blues this season from the Florida Gators, also sacked Western quarterback Ben Rossong for a loss of 10 yards.



SPECIAL TEAMS: Matt Falvo, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Kicker
Matt Falvo had three field goals in a thrilling 32-30 victory against Windsor this past weekend, including an 11-yard game-winning field goal as time expired. Falvo is now tied at 54 with former Gee-Gees kicker Ara Tchobania for the all-time Gee-Gees record for most field goals in a career.
