OVFL: Guelph Bears Varsity team mantra "Defence wins Championships"

The Guelph Varsity and Junior Varsity Bears are looking to improve on there last year’s seasons finishing with 1-7 and 3-5 respectively. Head coach Jeremy MacLeod(varsity) is proud of the group that has been assembled for this season and says that his players have been training hard since the start of February and are well prepared.

Coach Macleod plans to rely heavily on his defence this upcoming season and with good reason. The bear’s defence is ripe with talent, especially in the secondary; Parisotto, Depieri, and Burnham show good athleticism and skill at DB and with Bishop and Vandermade at Linebacker the Bears defence looks formidable. Macleod has high hopes for these players as he expects them to hold their opponents to under 21 points a game.

As for the offensive side of the ball the Bears are starting fresh this season throwing out their loosing playbook and bringing in an entire new system for Offense. Coordinator Danny Marshel ensures me that their opponents will be unprepared for their new plan of attack, which will be a first at this level.

There is also no shortage of talent on offense; Dan Tassary is expected to move the chains in a big way for the bears at running back. Johny Beits at QB does indeed have some bite to his throw and he has great targets in Josh Coony and Sean Young at wide Receiver. A first year addition to the Bears this season is Cage Maracle at Left Tackle. Cage is going to provide a big BIG boost to the O-Line this season as he stands a full head and shoulders over all others on the line.

The Bears seasons looks to be off to a good start this year and the fans definitely have a lot to look forward to.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
