OVFL & OFC RECAP (JUNIOR VARSITY – 6): Cimankinda continues season tear, Pettiford’s thunderous performance & Wolverines’ still indestructable

Week 6 continued along in both the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC) despite not ideal weather conditions in some cities.

Among the winners in the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) include Niagara Spears, Mississauga Warriors, Toronto Thunder, Cambridge Lions, Ottawa Myers Riders, Cumberland Panthers, Oshawa Hawkeyes and London Jr Mustangs.

Meanwhile, Peterborough Wolverines, Forest City Thunderbirds, Sudbury Gladiators, Toronto Jr Argos, Burlington Stampeders and North Halton Crimson Tide were victorious in OFC action.

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

NIAGARA SPEARS 38, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 8:

Under Friday Night Lights at Kiwanis Field, Maksym Nazartchyk scored two touchdowns (1 rushing and an 82 yard touchdown reception), sprinted for 131 yards on 17 carries as the Niagara Spears cruised to a 38-8 victory over the visiting Etobicoke Eagles.

Hayden Riley added four PAT’s in the win.

As for the Eagles, Keegan Dicks had a 27 yard touchdown reception.  Devonte Smikle registered six solo and eight assisted tackles.  Additionally, Efe Oynemenam chipped in with four solo and 10 assisted touchdowns in the loss.

MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 21 SAULT SABRECATS 12:

At Loyola Catholic Secondary School on Saturday afternoon, Jonathan Keizer had a 50 yard touchdown reception as the Mississauga Warriors defeated the Sault (SSM) Sabrecats 21-12.

Josiah McKoy had 26 yards on four receptions.  Sean Paquette added three PAT’s.

Thunder JV Offense 2014

TORONTO THUNDER 28, METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 0:

On Saturday afternoon at Esther Shriner Stadium, Quintyn Pettiford scored three touchdowns and rushed for 152 yards on 18 carries are the Toronto Thunder earned a 28-0 shutout victory over Metro Toronto Wildcats.

Vayi Yomo rushed for 106 yards on seven receptions while Shedler Fervius racked up 44 yards on three receptions.  Denzel Annan had 25 yards on two receptions in the win. Jackson Taylor was successful on three conversion attempts and added a rouge.

Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) participant Chris Sabat led the defence as he recorded two solo sacks, three solo and six assisted tackles.

As for the Wildcats, Yiannis Spetsakis had two batted balls as well as two solo and seven assisted tackles.

Elvis Sanchez & David Aiken - (JV) Cambridge Lions (CFC)

CAMBRIDGE LIONS 35, ESSEX RAVENS 7:

At St. Thomas of Villanova Secondary School on Saturday afternoon, David Aiken tallied three majors and rushed for 123 yards on 22 attempts as the Cambridge Lions breezed by the Essex Ravens 35-7.

Elvis Sanchez sprinted into the end zone once and rushed for 143 yards on 19 carries while Andrew Horscroft added five PAT’s.

On defence, Jack Hinsperger led the way with one solo sack, one assisted sack, six solo tackles and three assisted tackles.

Liam O’Halloran scored the lone touchdown for the Ravens and rushed for 79 yards on seven carries.  Jacob Savoni added 71 rushing yards on 16 carries.

Jean Paul Cimankinda

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 48, KINGSTON GRENADIERS 6:

On Saturday afternoon at Beckwith Sports Facility, Jean-Paul Cimankinda continued his season tear as he scored five touchdowns (four rushing and one receiving), rushed for 323 yards on 15 carries and 50 yards on two receptions as the Ottawa Myers Riders dismantled the Kingston Grenadiers 48-6.

Owen Clement was successful on four conversion attempts in the win.

Jameson Dominique caught an interception and ran it into the end zone for a 73 yard score.  Additionally, he registered three solo and five assisted tackles.  AJ Oickle recorded two sacks as well as four solo and 10 assisted tackles.  Malik Yussef chipped in with a batted ball as well as six solo and eight assisted tackles.

As for the Grenadiers, Kyle Compton completed 11 passes in 16 attempts for 97 yards and a passing touchdown.

CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 33, DURHAM WEST DOLPHINS 0:

At Pine Ridge High School on Saturday afternoon, the Cumberland Panthers earned a 33-0 shutout victory over Durham West Dolphins.

OSHAWA HAWKEYES 31, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 14:

On Saturday afternoon at Oshawa Civic Stadium, Bobby Cadman tallied three majors and rushed on 128 yards on 21 carries as the Oshawa Hawkeyes defeated the York Simcoe Bucs 31-14.

Jelani Yorke scored a touchdown and racked up 33 yards on three receptions. Jacob Hill added a 12 yard field goal and added three PAT’s.

On defence, Moshen Al-Tamimi caught an interception as well as registered six solo and three assisted tackles.

Pivot Ben Langlois completed 14 passes in 30 attempts for 139 yards for the Bucs. Nathan Sherrard amassed 55 yards on three receptions and added two PAT’s in the loss.

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 42, BRAMPTON BULLDOGS 0:

At TD Waterhouse Stadium on Saturday evening, Chase Brown scored two touchdowns and rushed for 87 yards on 12 carries as the London Jr. Mustangs earned a 42-0 shutout victory over Brampton Bulldogs.

Brian Garrity was successful on six conversation attempts in the win.

PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES 34, HURONIA STALLIONS 6:

The Wolverines Jr. Varsity squad visited Huronia in Barrie on Friday night and remain undefeated with a record of 6-0 with the 34 – 6 victory over the Stallions. They are in first place in the Ramsay Conference with two regular season games remaining with trips to Sudbury and Toronto. Scoring for the JV’s with single TD’s were Chase Batley, Cameron Gilmore, Ryan McNamara and Keegan Crough who also converted three PAT kicks. The Wolverines defense played well recording three team safeties.

BURLINGTON STAMPEDERS 27, BRANTFORD BISONS 6:

GAME RECAP BY JOHN METCALFE

The Junior Varsity side slogged to a 27-6 win over the Brantford Bison on June 27th in the Telephone City.  With the victory, the Stamps record moves to 4-0 while the Bison slip to 2-4.  Details from the game were not available.  Next up for will be a test versus their western neighbours, the Hamilton Hurricanes on July 3rd at Ron Joyce Stadium at McMaster University with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff
