OVFL & OFC RECAP (JV PLAYOFFS): Jr Gyphons, Wolverines advance to championship, Jr. Stangs, Spears, Myers Riders & Thunder score wins

Both the Peterborough Wolverines and Guelph Jr. Gryphons have advanced to the Ontario Football Conference (OFC) Junior Varsity Championship.

In the North Division, the Wolverines earned their spot in the final with a 31-17 victory over North Halton Crimson Tide.

Meanwhile, the Jr. Gryphons cruised to a 35-17 win over the Hamilton Hurricanes in the South Division Final.

The OFC Junior Varsity Final will be played on Saturday August 8th at 2:00pm.

As for the OVFL, the London Jr Mustangs will vie for the Adam Conference Championship against Niagara Spears on Saturday August 8th at TD Waterhouse Stadium.Ā  Kickoff is 1:00pm.Ā  Additionally, the Ottawa Myers Riders will host in the Toronto Thunder in the Wettges Conference Championship at Beckwith Sports Facility.Ā  Game start is noon.

PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES 31, NORTH HALTON CRIMSON TIDE 17:

GAME RECAP BY PETERBOROUGH WOLVERINES

In the JV contest it was a battle between two good football teams before a great crowd at the TAS field. The game was a hard fought affair with the Wolverines taking a 9-3 lead at the half and increasing it to 24-3 into the 4th quarter. The Crimson Tide came storming back to close the gap 24-17 with under 3 minutes to play. The Wolverines were able to seal the victory with 34 seconds remaining when Kaleb Freeman returned a pass interception for a TD.

Scoring for the Wolverines with single TDā€™s Chase Batley, Keagan Crough, Kaleb Freeman and Nick Clarkin on spectacular 115 yard punt return. Keagan Crough converted 4 PAT kicks and recorded a single.

Congratulations to the Wolverines who improved their record to 10-0 as they advanced to the OFC championship.

The OFC Championship will be this Saturday at the University Of Guelph Alumni Stadium. The JV final is at 2pm. Good Luck Wolverines.

GAME RECAP AND SUMMARY BY JOHN METCALFE

The dominant performance of Hurricane Michael Chris Ike did not carry on from the quarter final match up last week.Ā  While Chris Ike gained 108 yards on the ground, he was not able to score on the afternoon.Ā  Guelph pivot Dakota Brown hooked up with Jason Lefkas for a 40 yard pass and run and then hooked up with Tommy Nield from 47 yards and also plunged in from 1 yard out himself.Ā  Reid Martin returned a Zack Beno pass 40 yards for a major and the Griffā€™s defence forced two conceded safety touches.Ā  Michael Bobak booted a 22 yard field goal and also added 4 converts.Ā  For the Hurricanes, Beno hooked up with Dylan Watkins for an 8 yard score and Watkins wove his way on a punt return 60 yards to paydirt.Ā  Jacob Patten hoofed two converts and also had a rouge from a wide field goal.Ā  The ā€˜Canes defence also forced a conceded safety touch.Ā  Guelph advance to their first O.F.C. title game where they will face the Peterborough Wolverines in the championship tilt.Ā  Wolverines booked their place in the final with a 31-17 win over the North Halton Crimson Tide.Ā  This contest will kickoff at 3:00 p.m.

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 31, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 0:

At TD Waterhouse Stadium on Saturday evening, Chase Brown scored two touchdowns and rushed for 210 yards on 17 carries as the London Jr Mustangs earned a 31-0 shutout victory over the Etobicoke Eagles.

Tazie Vang Bell tallied a major and rushed for 123 yards on 17 carries.Ā  Daniel Johnson added a score and racked up 24 yards on two receptions.Ā  Matthew MacGillivray amassed 24 yards on two receptions on two receptions for the Jr. Mustangs.

Brian Garrity added four PATā€™s and a rouge in the win.

Daniel Valente led the Jr. Mustangs defence with four solo and five assisted tackles.

As for the Eagles, Devonte Smikle registered three solo and six assisted tackles in the loss.

Cole Burniston 1

NIAGARA SPEARS 41, CAMBRIDGE LIONS 7:

Under Friday Night Lights at Kiwanis Field, Cole Burniston tallied two majors and rushed for 60 yards on nine carries as the Niagara Spears dismantled the Cambridge Lions 41-7.

Maksym Nazartchyk scored a touchdown and rushed for 86 yards on 13 carries.Ā  Joshua Ferguson added a score and rushed for 81 yards on four carries in the win.

Chase Osinga amassed 85 yards on three receptions while Dante McNamara had 28 yards on two receptions for the Spears.Ā  Hayden Riley added two field goals (33 and 22 yards) and five PATā€™s.

On defence, Jake Porter led the way as he caught an interception as well as four solo and three assisted tackles.Ā  Jack Scordino registered three solo and six assisted tackles for the Spears.

Joshua Nikolic racked up 54 yards on three receptions for the Lions.Ā  Andrew Ager was successful on a conversion attempt.

Jack Hinsperger guided the Lions defence with seven solo and two assisted tackles.Ā  Additionally, Jake Surdykowski registered five solo and three assisted tackles.

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 49, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 34:

At Beckwith Sports Facility on Sunday afternoon, Jean-Paul Cimankinda scored two touchdowns and rushed for 245 yards on 25 carries as the Ottawa Myers Riders defeated the Oshawa Hawkeyes.

Hayden Tripp tallied three majors and rushed for 132 yards on 21 carries.Ā  Moreover, Owen Clement added two scored and amassed 136 yards on four receptions for the Myers Riders.Ā  He also added seven PATā€™s.

Brayden Lassenba completed 11 passes in 15 attempts for 179 yards and two passing touchdowns.

Thunder JV Offense 2014

TORONTO THUNDER 57, CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 35:

On Sunday afternoon at Mary Ward CSS, Elijah Blake completed 13 passes in 19 attempts for 242 yards and four passing touchdowns as the Toronto Thunder advanced with a 57-35 win over Cumberland Panthers.

Daniel Adeboboye scored two touchdowns and rushed for 128 yards on 12 carries.Ā  Shedler Fervius scored on a 40 yard rush and added two receiving touchdowns and 87 yards on four catches.

Kiondre Smith tallied a major and amassed 114 yards on five receptions for the Thunder.Ā  Denzel Annan added score and racked up 31 yards on three receptions in the win.

Jackson Taylor was successful on eight conversion attempts and a rouge.

On defence, Adrian Greene recorded an assisted tackle and seven solo tackles.Ā  Deionte Knight added a solo sack, a solo tackle and five assisted tackles.Ā  Additionally, Markcus Jean-Loescher registered three solo and seven assisted tackles for the Thunder.
