OVFL & OFC Week 9 (JV) Recap: Balthazaar, Anderson Brown unstoppable & Panthers perfect heading to postseason

This past weekend, both the Junior Varsity Divisions of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) and Ontario Football Conference (OFC) completed their respective regular seasons.

In the OVFL, the Cumberland Panthers will enter the postseason undefeated as the team won their game this past weekend.Ā  Other winners include Mississauga Warriors, Cambridge Lions, Ottawa Myers Riders, Niagara Spears, Metro Toronto Wildcats, London Jr Mustangs and Brampton Bulldogs.

This upcoming Saturday (July 26th), the playoffs will begin with the following four games:

Brampton Bulldogs versus Niagara Spears @ 12:00pm (TBA)
London Jr Mustangs versus Mississauga Warriors @ 12:00pm (TBA)
Scarborough Thunder versus Kingston Grenadiers @ 9:30am (Mary Ward High School)
York Simcoe Bucs versus Metro Toronto Wildcats @ 1:00pm (St. Maximillian Kolbe High School)

In the Ontario Football Conference, Week 9 winners include Niagara Storm, Forest City Thunderbirds and Burlington Stampeders.

ONTARIO VARSITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE (OVFL):

Markham Raiders

MARKHAM RAIDERS 36, OSHAWA HAWKEYES 15:

MISSISSAUGA WARRIORS 35, ETOBICOKE EAGLES 22:

At Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School, Ajet Suljejmani scored two touchdowns and amassed 156 yards on four receptions as the Mississauga Warriors defeated the Etobicoke Eagles 35-22.

Brandon Metz also tallied a major and rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries.Ā  Pivot Alexander Lavric completed 13 passes in 21 attempts for 321 yards and three passing touchdowns. Sean Paquette added four PATā€™s for the Warriors.

Khalil Wilson led the Warriors defense with eight solo and seven assisted tackles.

As for the Eagles, Justice Allin scored three touchdowns and rushed for 205 yards on 35 carries. Andre Cordova led the teamā€™s defense with two solo and six assisted tackles.

CAMBRIDGE LIONS 53, SSM SABRECATS 18:

At Superior Heights High School, Devante Hudson tallied two touchdowns and had 157 yards on eight receptions as the Cambridge Lions cruised to a 53-18 victory over the SSM Sabrecats.

David Aiken scored a touchdown and rushed for 140 yards on 13 carries for the Lions.Ā  Jackson White completed 17 passes in 24 attempts for 266 yards and five passing touchdowns. Nathan McLean added a 36 yard field goal and was successful on six conversion attempts.

On defense, Ben Drummond recorded two solo sacks as well as registered four solo and four assisted tackles.Ā  Jack Hinsperger recorded a solo sack as well as added four solo and four assisted tackles in the Lions win.

Cumberland Panthers JV Week 8

CUMBERLAND PANTHERS 56, YORK SIMCOE BUCS 7:

At Millennium Field, Baxter Balthazar scored five touchdowns and rushed for 200 yards on 14 carries as the Cumberland Panthers trounced the York Simcoe Bucs 56-7.

Jonathan Mufuta tallied two majors and rushed for 101 rushing yards on five carries. Quintin Gregory scored a touchdown and rushed for 107 yards on three carries for the Panthers. Ā Ā Zachary Batal added eight PATā€™s.

Nicholas Russo led the Panthers defensive with four solo and four assisted tackles.

Tristan Kuchar tallied the lone major for the Bucs and rushed for 98 yards on 15 carries. Michael Bazzo was successful on the conversion attempt.

Ottawa Myers Riders JV Week 5

OTTAWA MYERS RIDERS 63, AJAX-PICKERING DOLPHINS 7:

At Kinsmen Park, Jalla Lansanah converted a punt return for a touchdown and Daniel Porter caught an interception and ran it into the end zone as the Ottawa Myers Riders crushed the Ajax-Pickering Dolphins 63-7.

Porter also added five assisted tackles for the Myers Riders. Owen Clement added eight PATā€™s.

Kenan Clarke tallied the lone major for the Dolphins and racked up 77 yards on three receptions.Ā  Aidan Kruger led the defense as he recorded a sack as well as registered two solo and six assisted tackles in the loss.

NIAGARA SPEARS 25, HALTON COWBOYS 0:

At Jean Vanier Catholic High School, Dylan Warnock scored two touchdowns off punt returns as the Niagara Spears earned a 25-0 shutout victory over the Halton Cowboys.

Matteo Pennacchietti rushed for 102 yards on 11 carries.Ā  Hayden Riley added a 30 yard field goal and was successful on three conversion attempts.

MTW JV versus Kingston week 9 OVFL 2014

METRO TORONTO WILDCATS 41, KINGSTON GRENADIERS 21:

At Esther Shriner Stadium, the Metro Toronto Wildcats earned a 41-21 win over the Kingston Grenadiers.

For the Grenadiers, Drew Holmes tallied a major and had 47 yards on four receptions.Ā  Nikolas Daniele added a 14 yard field goal and two PATā€™s.

Pivot Brendan Steele completed 14 passes in 25 attempts for 193 yards and three passing touchdowns I the loss.

Devon Parris registered four solo and six assisted tackles for the Grenadiers.Ā  Taylor Stalkie added four solo and two assisted tackles.

LDN JR Mustangs

LONDON JR MUSTANGS 42, HAMILTON IRONMEN 33:

At McMaster Ron Joyce Stadium, Brentyne Anderson Brown scored three touchdowns and rushed for 200 yards on 32 carries as the London Jr Mustangs got by the Hamilton Ironmen 42-33.

Thomas Hawkins tallied a major and racked up 90 yards on four receptions. He also added six PATā€™s.Ā  Ben Schmidt completed seven passes in 14 attempts for 162 yards and a passing touchdown for the Mustangs.

Nicholas Sarre caught an interception as well as registered a solo and four assisted tackles in the win.
