Sun punt returner sets new CJFL record

Saturday night Robbie Yochim returned three punts for touchdowns, setting a new Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) record.

His first return was 47 yards late in the first quarter against the Westshore Rebels.

The fifth year vet struck again in the second quarter, sprinting 87 yards untouched for a major.  This touchdown tied Yochim with 25 other players throughout CJFL history for the most punt returns for touchdowns in a single game.

Then in the fourth quarter Yochim again took a 47 yard punt return for touchdown, setting the new CJFL record.

Two previous Sun players are among the tied 25; James Green did it on August 16, 2003 and Eric Duchene on August 9, 1997.

Mark Boyle of the Ottawa Sooners first set the record with two punt returns for touchdowns on September 22, 1968.  Other than Yochim the last player to tie the record was Nick Downey of the Langley Rams on September 8, 2012. Downey did it twice in 2012.

The 92 points the Sun scored on Saturday was fifth most in the CJFL history.  In 1969 the Ottawa Sooners recorded a 109-0 shutout on August 10.  The BCFC record is 97 held by the Vancouver Island Raiders in 2007.

Yochim and the Sun are 7-1 and will host the Rams on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
