Team Canada Senior players arrive in London for training camp

Football Canada will host the Senior Menā€™s National Team final training camp in London, ON, June 24 ā€“ July 2. A group of 50 players are invited to the camp where the coaching staff will finalize a 45-man roster that Football Canada will send to compete at the International Federation of American Football Senior Menā€™s World Championship in Austria, July 8-16.

The camp, taking place on the campus of The University of Western Ontario Campus will feature eight days of two-a-days that begin at 7 AM and end at 9 PM with on-field and off-field activities throughout.

To date, the roster is comprised of players from coast-to-coast and features many former US College players, CIS All-Stars, and numerous players with professional experience. The team will also feature two CFL standouts ā€“ Adriano Belli and Sherko Haji-Rasouli.

A 2001 first-round pick of the B.C. Lions, Belli, a 2005 Grey Cup winner and two time all-star, spent 10 seasons in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes (twice) and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (twice) before spending his final four years in Toronto. Meanwhile, Haji-Rasouli, a six-foot-six, 326-pound former University of Miami star, is an eight-year CFL veteran who spent six seasons with the B.C. Lions, winning the Grey Cup in 2007.

This summer marks Football Canadaā€™s first entry into the fourth IFAF Senior Menā€™s World Championship, slated for July 8-16 in Austria. The 2011 National Team coaching staff is led by former University of Western Ontario Mustangs Head Coach Larry Haylor, Defensive Coordinator Blake Nill (University of Calgary) and Offensive Coordinator Greg Marshall (Western). The coaching staff is rounded out by Brian Towriss (University of Saskatchewan), Jeff Cummins (Acadia University), Steve Sumarah (Saint Maryā€™s University) and Pat Tracey (Queenā€™s University).

The IFAF Senior World Championship is held every four years having first been contested in 1999. Eight nations from four continents will compete in Vienna, Innsbruck and Graz from July 8-16, 2011. Teams from Australia, Germany, France, Mexico, Canada, Japan, defending champion USA and Austria will compete for the title of World Champion in Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna.
