Thompson, strength in goals

James Thompson-Dick started his football career with the Edmonton Chargers playing from Pee-Wee, through to Midget. While he was with the Chargers his love for the sport truly took off and was solidified with an Outstanding Player award in a Championship game, a Defensive MVP, a Most Improved Player, and the Coach’s Award for Outstanding Sportsmanship. He also received the Leadership Award twice.

Currently with the Harry Ainlay Titans, James is excited for the season and finding his leadership within the team. To add to the impressive amount of playing that he has done, James has also been a contention on two All-Stars teams. Zone 6 Edmonton Elite for the 2014 Alberta Summer Games and Team North for the 2015 Bantam Bowl.

Graduating in 2018, he is excited for the many opportunities that will be coming his way in the next couple of years and is open to all offers from either a NCAA or a CIS school. Being that he is a solid ‘A’ student, his passion is football, but the plan he has in place is to get a Bachelor’s of Science and then move forward and attend Dental school. James would love to be able to have the chance to achieve both of these goals; playing football and working on his academic future. There currently are no goals to visit any Universities as of this moment, being that this is his Grade 11 year he knows that those moments will come eventually.

In his first season with the Titans the highlight of the season was the homecoming game win against Austin O’Brien High School. “Because I got to play in front of all my family and the atmosphere was amazing. It made me remember why I love this game.” This shows that the most influential people in his life have a major role on and off the field. He credits his mom and sister to being the motivation behind him, “They teach me to be tough, resilient and to never give up.”  James continues to give out kudos to a coach who has helped him on the field, “My coach from the Edmonton Chargers, James Devine. He is the one who made me fall in love with the games and has believed in me since the beginning.”

Going forward, James is eager to get to where he needs to be for this Grade 11 season.  He has applied himself with a personal trainer in this past off season with sessions of either four to five times a week. During this current season, he intends to be at practice every day with extra work outs before school. “This season I’m going to work harder in both the physical aspects with training and practice, as well as the mental aspects in the classroom.” He mentions. Hearing this truly shows the ability to apply what he would like to see for his future with the sport and life around him will only make him successful.
