Bojan Stevanovic is the most recent recruit to commit to the Manitoba Bisons class of 2016. The 6’3″, 290# ATH (OL/DL) is a product of Winnipeg’s Miles MacDonnell program. He garnered high praise this season as a dominant force for the Buckeyes, fighting on both sides of the trenches.
Brian Dobie, the long-tenured Bison Head Coach, sees Bojan as a big pickup for his program, even if it isn’t clear where he will end up. “Bojan is an outstanding two-way lineman. I think we’re going to have to find a way for our coaches to decide who gets him, because both sides of the ball are really excited about the potential the Bojan has.”
Bison DL Coach Scott Barbour is confident that Bojan will become a top member of his unit. “We are excited to have Bojan joining our defensive line. He is athletic and is physical at the point of attack which will make him a nice addition to the interior of our defensive line. I look forward to working with him this season.”
Bison OL Coach Terry Watson, however, sees Bojan’s future on the opposite side of the ball. “Another great Manitoba offensive lineman added to the mix. Bojan brings physicality and a desire to finish every block right to the whistle. This mentality will help him compete right from the get go. We are excited by what the future holds for him.”
”There were many factors that influenced my decision to join the Bisons. After meeting with Coach Dobie and doing a walkthrough of the facility it was evident that the organization was first class.” Bojan felt that the staff was also a strong influence in his decision. “The professionalism of the coaching staff was remarkable. Everyone seemed extremely knowledgeable and had a genuine interest in each and every player in the program. The hometown factor also played a huge part in my decision. It’s an honour to represent the province I grew up in. I look forward to working closely with the coaches and teammates with the hopes of developing into an elite member of the Bisons.”
Bison Recruiting Co-Ordinator Chris Clement also praised the young lineman’s versatility. ”It’s a real treat to be able to add top versatile talent at the two positions that are always toughest to recruit. You never have enough big linemen and to get one that has the flexibility to play either side of the ball is a big advantage.”
As the twelfth recruit of the 2016 Bison class Stevanovic is also the eighth homegrown Manitoba product, but he will have to wait to find out if he will be playing on the offensive or defensive line. He is Manitoba’s second recruit this year to come in as an unclassified athlete, part of the program’s commitment to bringing in elite athleticism, regardless of position.
