Bisons announce signing of second 2015 CFC 100 recruit

Winnipeg defensive end earns dubious distinction by virtue of commitment to CWUAA team.

Yesterday, the Manitoba Bisons officially announced the signing of CFC 100 defensive end Derek Dufault for the 2015 CWUAA season.

ā€œDerek has been one of the best defensive linemen in the country and a leader,ā€ commented Bisons Head Coach Brian Dobie.Ā  ā€œHe committed on the first allowable date ā€“ September 1 ā€“ for the 2015 academic and varsity season.ā€

ā€œIn addition, Derek signed at 16 with a later fall birthdate and this makes him the youngest commitment in Bison Football history.”

For Dufault, the reasons he signed were both football and academic.

ā€œI felt that going away from my home would of made the experience so much more stressful on me and make the experience much more challenging than it already is and I felt that it would have impacted my grades, as well as my football,ā€ explained the CFC 100 defensive end.Ā  ā€œAlso, the more I thought about it in recent weeks the more I started leaning towards staying home because staying close to family is important to me.ā€

ā€œAnother factor was that I was offered a full scholarship from the University of Manitoba and since I was already leaning towards staying home it all kind of just clicked.Ā  I believe it is a great school and a great football organization, full of opportunity for me. The Bisons are a very competitive team and I can’t wait until I can start adding to it.ā€
