CanWest Recruiting Wrap: Family farm drives OL Barsness to sign with U of S

University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba have signed a new twin lineman from their local talent pool. Offensive lineman Drew Boucher and defensive tackle Jordin Boucher will join the Herd for the upcoming season.

β€œI joined the Bisons because I really like the recruiting class they’ve brought in the past few years, and there’s no place like home,” Drew states.

At 6’4, 245lbs, Drew has been a rock at offensive line and long snapper. He began playing football with the Transcona Nationals (MMFA), and has just finished his high school ball with the Murdoch Mackay Clansmen (WHSFL).

Drew’s goals while he’s with the Bisons are to get better everyday and to push himself as hard as he can.

University of Saskatchewan

The Saskatchewan Huskies are excited to welcome a new lineman to their defense. Defensive tackle Evan Barsness is the latest recruit for the green and white.

β€œI picked Saskatchewan because of its agriculture program, as I grew up on a farm and I want to take over it when I get older,” he replies.

Barsness stands at 6’3″, 275lbs and played for the Weyburn Comprehensive Eagles (SHSAA).

β€œMy goals are to put in 110% and do my best and help the team in any way I can,” he states.

University of Regina

An offensive tackle will be leaving the CJFL for the Rams in 2022 with Matthew Hajewich has officially signing with Regina.

Hajewich has been with the Regina Thunder since 2017, and this past season went a perfect 8-0.

The Rams have also added a new wide receiver to their roster from Kelowna, B.C as Evan Fitchett will head East to the prairies in 2022.

Fitchett spent his high school football years with Kelowna Secondary (BCSSFA) andΒ will be studying Business Administration at the University of Regina.
