Calgary and Area Midget Football: Stamps Steal a Close One

Stamps vs. Wildcats

Result: Stamps 11 – Wildcats 8

This was one of the best games of the week, and it ended in thrilling fashion. The Calgary Midget Stampeders trailed the Wildcats 8-0 with two minutes left when RB Justin Keys ran in the Stamps lone touchdown on the night. They then managed to get the two point conversion to tie up the ball game. The game then became a battle of failed rouges until the Wildcats punter was tackled before he was able to get a kick off, setting the Stamps up on the Wildcats twenty yard line. The Stamps kicker Ian McMahon kicked the game winning field goal as the clock struck zero.

Falcons vs. Bulldogs

Result: Falcons 28 – Bulldogs 30

This was one of the key match-ups this passed week, and needless to say it did not disappoint. This game was close all of the way down to the wire. Both teams were led by good performances from their respective Quarterbacks and Runningbacks. The Falcons QB Chris Merchant and RB Noah Muruve each had two rushing touchdowns. The Bulldogs QB Liam McCorquodale had a rushing touchdown of his own, while RB Ben Lane had two. The game came down to a last minute field goal by Bulldogs kicker Tim Wong, who sealed the victory for his team.

Broncos vs. Raiders

Result: Broncos 34 – Raiders 13

The Broncos had their first big offensive outing, and the Raiders scored their first points of the season. Broncos RB Devlyn Maclean propelled his team to it’s first victory with three rushing touchdowns. Raiders WR Braden Massey scored the Raiders first points of the season when he hauled in a touchdown pass from QB Joel Peltonen.

Lions vs. Colts

Result: Lions 6 – Colts 24

Lions RB Ryder Stone had another touchdown, this time coming on a kickoff return. That was the lone bright spot for the Lions in this game. The Colts were in control of this game from the opening kick, which WR Dallas Boath returned for a TD. After that the Colts were led by strong defensive play which included interceptions by DB Sean Waugh, LB Cole Van Esch, and LB Jared South (returned for a TD).

Cowboys vs. Hilltoppers

Result: Cowboys 7 – Hilltoppers 24

In what was probably the biggest match-up of the week the Hilltoppers proved that are one of the teams to beat. The Hilltoppers were led by QB Colby Brewster and his three touchdown performance (2 passing, 1 rushing). The Toppers defence was smothering and were led by DL Jack McEwan and Josh Thompson. The bright side for the Cowboys, as it has been all year, was their defensive front seven. They were led by the play of Carlo Gallotta who had multiple tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

Mavericks vs. Prairie Fire

Result: Mavericks 35 – Fire 0

This game was a lopsided battle. The Mavericks defence shut down the Fire offence and the Fire defence could not find an answer for the Mavericks O. Mavs QB Boston Rowe had a stellar performance, throwing four touchdown passes and rushing for one. The Fire will try to bounce back next week against a determined Cowboys team.

Overview:

Who Looked Strong:
The Hilltoppers and Mavericks are both showing they have what it takes to win this league. The looming week 6 match-up between these two clubs will be the biggest game of the regular season.
