Calgary Midget: CAMFA – POWER RANKINGS – Week 6

CAMFA Power Rankings
WEEK 6

1. Mavericks (1): For a second straight week the Mavs offense went off as they dominated a low seeded opponent.

The Mavs were lead by Boston Rowe’s 3 rushing TDs and a solid debut by Colton Hunchak, the future of the program at QB who had 3 long TD runs called back in the second half in addition to his 1 passing TD. The Mavs will face the Hilltoppers in week 6 in what will be the biggest game of the season as it determines the top seed in the Boulton division and grants the winning team a bye into the CAMFA semi final game. The biggest obstacle for the Mavs is the rumor that they may have to face the Toppers in week 6 without their team MVP, Boston Rowe. Under these circumstances young Colton Hunchak would step in at QB in potentially the biggest game of his young career.

2. Hilltoppers (2): Much like the Mavs, the Toppers dominated against their low seeded opponent, the Broncos, in week 5 showing their power on both sides of the ball. Colby Brewster has really hit his stride over the past few weeks and has the offense humming. With terrific play by Tristan Terry and the rest of the D Line, the Toppers are primed for their opportunity to take sole possession of the top seed in CAMFA.

3. Stamps (3): As it has gone for most of the season the Stamps started slow and finished strong in week 5. After playing from behind most of the first half, the Stamps took the lead right before halftime and never looked back. Lead by their best playmaker, Justin Keys, the Stamps torched the Lions through the air. The Stamps face the Falcons in the final week of the season in what could potentially determine the top seed in the Parkinson division.

4. Cowboys (4): With their back’s against the wall the Cowboys showed up in Red Deer to play. The Cowboys dominated defensively once again it what was a wet and muddy affair. In an attempt to get the offense going the Cowboys utilized their most dynamic player, Keanno Bentor, on offense and it paid off with him scoring their only offensive TD. The win solidifies a spot for the Cowboys in the Div 1 playoffs and the 3rd seed in the Boulton division. The Cowboys finish off their regular season against the Broncos.

5. Bulldogs (5): Playing in yet another tight game, the Dogs found a way to win again. Playing one of their biggest rivals in the Wildcats, the Dogs Brady Hornung came up big with a 50+ yard TD Reception that proved to be the difference. The Bulldogs now sit in a three way tie for second place in the Parkinson division with the Colts and Falcons making their week 6 match up with the Colts the second biggest game of the week. The winner will play in the Div 1 playoffs with the loser being relegated to Div 2.

6. Colts (7): Hitting their stride at the right time the Colts took it to the Falcons in week 5. Although the strength of the team has been the defense all season, the young offensive unit appears to be pulling it together late in the season posting over 24 points in each of the last two weeks. Austen Hartley and Dallas Boath continue to be the Colts best offensive weapons. Defensively, the Colts may have potentially suffered a huge loss as their defensive MVP, Cole Van Esch, went down hard late in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. The Colts play the rolling Bulldogs in week 6 for a birth in the Div 1 playoffs.

7. Falcons (6): After a terrific start to the season the Falcons have been fading as of late. Over the last two weeks the Falcons secondary has been exposed as they have given up over 29 points in both weeks. Offensively, the Falcons are not running the ball as effectively and its hurting their passing game. With two straight losses the Falcons are in serious jeopardy of heading into the playoffs on a 3 game losing streak as they will face the top team in the Parkinson division, the Stamps, in the final week of the regular season.

8. Wildcats (9): With a loss to the Bulldogs in week 5 the Wildcats are officially in the Div 2 playoffs. This young team played well over the past few weeks however due to timely mistakes and a lack of big play ability the Cats will look to salvage their season with a Div 2 playoff run. The Cats play the Lions in week 6 where a victory will give them a match up with the lowly Raiders in the Div 2 quarter finals.

9. Fire (8): The Fire’s up and down season continued in week 5 as they played host to the Cowboys in Red Deer for the first CAMFA game played outside of Calgary. In what was a wet and muddy affair, the Fire were unable to finish drives and struggled to contain the Cowboys returners on special teams. Being relegated to the Div 2 playoffs the Fire play the Raiders in week 6 to earn a bye to the Div 2 Semi Final.

10. Broncos (10): The Broncos had the unenviable task of playing the mighty Hilltoppers in week 5 and as expected things did not go so well. The Broncos offensive attack was dismal while their defense struggled to contain any aspect of the Toppers offensive attack. The Broncos have another tough match up in week 6 against the Cowboys. With the Broncos virtually having the 5th seed locked up in the Boulton division, they will most likely be playing the Lions in the Div 2 quarter final next week.

11. Lions (11): Playing without Ryder Stone the Lions came out in week 5 with something to prove. The Lions played the Stamps tough for 3 quarters passing the ball well and playing the run well on defense. However, multiple breakdowns in the secondary and an inability to sustain drives in the second half lead to their downfall and fourth loss of the season. The Lions finish off the regular season against the Wildcats in a game for the 5th seed in the Parkinson division.

12. Raiders (12): Playing with just over 20 players the Raiders fell to the Mavs in week 5. Although the season has been one to forget the Raiders continue to play hard. The Raiders finish off their regular season with the Fire.
