CFC Ranks: CJFL top 10 (3) “Yantz goes over century mark in pass TDs”

A special congratulations to Vancouver Island Raiders QB Jordan Yantz who became the first CJFL quarterback to go over 100 touchdown passes in a career.  He has 6 more regular season games to pad those stats.  Not much movement in the top 10 but expect some over the next couple of weeks as some of the top teams face one another.

1 [1]  Calgary Colts (3-0) PFC
Defeated Edmonton Wildcats 28 to 16

Colts led 7 to 6 at half but 21 points in the second half was enough to secure their 3rd victory in a row.  Bye weekend this week in the PFC.  Host Edmonton Huskies the following week.

2 [2]  Langley Rams (3-0-1) BCFC
Defeated Okanagan Sun 34 to 3

QB Greg Bowcott was 14 of 21 for 196 yards and two touchdowns.  He found Malcolm Williams five times for 82 yards and one touchdown, while Michael Patko caught four balls for 50 yards and a major.  Bowcott also rushed five times for 42 yards and a touchdown.  Jordan Linnen intercepted a pass for a 62 yard pick six.  Rams will host the Kamloops Broncos (1-3) following the Labour Day bye.

3 [3]  Vancouver Island Raiders (3-0-1) BCFC
Defeated Kamloops Broncos 59 to 17

QB Jordan Yantz was 20 of 27 for 398 yards and set a new club record, six touchdown passes.  He becomes the first CJFL quarterback ever to throw for more than 100 touchdowns, with a total of 104 with six games to go in the season.

4 [4] Edmonton Wildcats (2-1) PFC
Lost to Calgary Colts 28 to 16

Jordan Samoil ran for 218 yards on 22 carries.  Ideen Samadi had 3 field goals on the day.  Tailback Jon Waters pulled the Cats to within 5 in the fourth but it was not enough.  Host the Winnipeg Rifles after the labour day bye weekend.

5 [5]  Saskatoon Hilltops (2-1) PFC
Defeated Edmonton Huskies 36 to 10

With the Hilltops leading 13-3, the fourth-year defensive lineman Donovan Dale swooped in to recover a fumble and then ran 44 yards for a touchdown 1:11 into the second half.  A safety and a 16-yard touchdown by running back Brendon Gryba put the Hilltops up 22-3 after three quarters, essentially sealing the win.  Matt Harder was 19 of 28 pass attempts for 299 yards with one touchdown and one interception in three quarters of work.

6 [6]  Regina Thunder (2-1) PFC
Defeated Winnipeg Rifles 39 to 16

Landon Bessel threw for over 300 yards and the Thunder defense limited the Rifles to 33% completeion percentage in the victory.  The Thunder head to Saskatoon on September 7th to square off against the Hilltops in the front end of the Shrine Bowl series.

7 [7] Windsor AKO Fratman (3-0) OFC
Defeated Ottawa Sooners 25 to 11

Christian Hackney found Derrick Hurst and Shayne Rice for scoring strikes of 13 and 23 yards in the second quarter.  Travel to London this Saturday to take on fellow undefeated team the Beefeaters.

8 [8]  London Beefeaters (3-0) OFC
Defeated Burlington Braves 23 to 22

Zack Medeiros kicked a 30-yard field goal with three seconds remaining on the clock.  A timely sack by Beefeater lineman Steve Plaine forced the Braves to punt, setting up the winning drive with 2:12 remaining.  Kyle Woldenberg-Puyda went over 100 yards rushing for the 3rd straight game.  Host the AKO in battle of undefeated OFC teams this weekened.  First time Beefs’ have started a season 3 and 0 since 1990.

9 [9]  Burlington Braves (2-1) OFC
Lost to London Beefeaters 23 to 22

Braves’ new running back Connor Anderson cut the lead in half on a one-yard run and added another TD on a three-yard effort after London fumbled the kickoff. A Dustin De Giorgis convert put the Braves in front for the first time, 13-12.   The Braves play the Brampton Bears at Ching Park at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31.

10 [NR] Hamilton Hurricanes (2-1) OFC
Defeated Brampton Bears 46 to 18

Quarterback Kyle Johnston tossed three touchdown passes.  Ryan Kotar and rookie running back Jurrell Gaddishaw added touchdown runs of 11 and 23 yards, respectively. Jacob Berry (2), Matt Brady and Ryan Dalley had interceptions for the Hurricanes.
