CFC Ranks: CJFL top 10 (6): “Playoff positions at stake this weekend

It is getting down to crunch-time as both the OFC & BCFC head into their final week of conference play.  Playoff positions are at stake in many games this weekend.  Records continue to fall, as this week rookie running back Edmonton Wildcat Jordan Somoil broke the single game rushing record.

1 [1]  Calgary Colts (6-0) PFC
Defeated Winnipeg Rifles 63 to 22

QB Derek Cooper finished 16-of-22 for 214 yards and two TDs but Jeremy Long, mopping up, also thrived in the Manitoba sunshine, going a perfect 5-for-5 for 106 yards and two TDs. Running back Chucks Okafor rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns.

2 [3]  Vancouver Island Raiders (6-0-1) BCFC
Defeated Langley Rams 41 to 29

Quarterback Jordan Yantz finished 19 of 30 for 370 yards and threw four touchdowns.

3 [4]  Saskatoon Hilltops (5-1) PFC
Defeated Regina Thunder 41 to 17

Matt Karpinka passed for 248 yards with the three touchdown.

4 [2]  Langley Rams (5-1-1) BCFC
Lost to Vancouver Island Raiders 41 to 29

First defeat of the season.  Nick Downey was once again the spark plug for the Rams.  The veteran returned his 12th career punt for a touchdown, tying a CJFL record.  He would also catch five passes for 141 yards in addition to his two carries for four yards and 283 all purpose yards.

5 [5] Edmonton Wildcats (4-2) PFC
Defeated Edmonton Huskies 48 to 34

Jordan Samoil, rookie tailback and product of Bev Fahey high school, continued his incredible 2012 season in the Wildcats 48-34 shootout win over their Clarke Park co-tenants Edmonton Huskies on September 21. Samoil set new PFC & CJFL standards with a 365-yard, 4-touchdown effort as he broke Tristan Jones PFC record of 344 rushing yards set in a 2006 game and bested the previous CJFL single game best of 355 yards set by Craig Carter of the Windsor AKO Fratmen in 1999. Samoil leads the PFC in rushing with 1279 yards.

6[6] Hamilton Hurricanes (6-1) OFC
Defeated Burlington Braves 33 to 7

Ryan Kotar again led the Hurricanes with 159 yards on 19 carries and 2 TD’s. The back-to-back Offensive OFC POW now leads the OFC in rushing with 963 yards and 9 TD’s.

7 [7] Westshore Rebels [6-1]
Defeated Chilliwack Huskers 33 to 3

Rebels won their sixth game in a row and Greg Morris ran for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns.

8 [9]  London Beefeaters (6-1) OFC
Defeated Windsor 20 to 17

Zach Medeiros, 3rd Year, P/PK from St. Joseph’s SS in St. Thomas had another great all-around kicking performance in the Beefs 20-17 victory. Zach had 11 punts for 430 yards, 2 kick-offs for 135, 2 for 2 on converts and had 2 field goals, including a 49-yard game winner with 2 seconds to play.

9 [8]  Regina Thunder (3-3) PFC
Lost to Saskatoon Hilltops 41 to 17

Need to regroup…quickly.

10 (NR) Ottawa Sooners (4-3) OFC
Defeated Twin Cities 47 to 6

After losing their first 3 games the Sooners have bounced back to win four in a row and put themselves in a position to make the playoffs.
