CFC Ranks: CJFL top 10 (Final): “Records, playoffs and first place showdowns”

The Ontario Football Conference began their post season schedule with two competitive games.  The Beefeaters held on to win without regular season starting QB Blake Huggins.  The Hurricanes held off a second half rally by the Sooners to advance to their third straight OFC final.  A thriller between VI Raiders and Langley Rams hilited BCFC action and a first place match up between the Colts and Hilltops was a hilite in the PFC.  Congrats to Greg Morris who set a CJFL one-game rushing record.

1 [1]  Calgary Colts (8-0) PFC
Defeated Saskatoon Hilltops 30 to 19

The Colts got off to a hot start as Kalon Bauman took the opening kickoff and ran it all the way back, 107 yards for the touchdown just 16 seconds into the game.  The Colts garnered all 9 points in the final frame in a 2:20 span as they forced Schmidt to concede a safety, and then Ben Hnatiuk put the exclamation mark on an undefeated regular season with a 16-yard connection from Cooper. The Colts host Regina in one semi-final, while Saskatoon hosts the Wildcats in the other semi-final.

2 [2]  Vancouver Island Raiders (8-0-1) BCFC
Defeated Langley Rams 34 to 32

The Rams clawed their way back in the fourth quarter down 31-18 to take a lead 32-31. But the Raiders showed why they are six time defending BCFC champions, with a 41 yard field goal on the last play of the game to win and lock down home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a 34-32 victory.  Raiders quarterback Jordan Yantz had another big game finishing 24 of 34 for 406 yards and two touchdowns.

3 [4]  Langley Rams (6-2-1) BCFC
Lost to Vancouver Island Raiders 34 to 32

The Langley Rams put up an unbelievable fight gaining 395 yards of net offense in their second loss to the Raiders in three weeks.  Quarterback Greg Bowcott finished 14 of 26 for 294 yards and a touchdown. He would also scramble three times for 12 yards.  His main threat was Nick Downey who caught six passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.  Malcolm Williams also had a big afternoon with four receptions for 122 yards.

4 [3]  Saskatoon Hilltops (6-2) PFC
Lost to Calgary Colts 30 to 19

Traded the lead with the Colts the entire game but let it slip away in the fourth quarter.  Saskatoon hosts the Wildcats in the one PFC semi-final.

5 [6] Edmonton Wildcats (5-3) PFC
Defeated Regina Thunder 27 to 15

Tylor Henry (6 catches for 126 yards) scored on a 36-yard major to make it 27-8 Edmonton after 3. Regina attempted a comeback bu it would be too little, too late. The 5-3 Wildcats head to Saskatoon in one PFC semi-final.

6 [5]  London Beefeaters (8-1) OFC
Defeated St. Leonard Cougars 27 to 17

Playing without regular season starting QB Blake Huggins (played for the Western Mustangs earlier in the day) the Beefeaters overcame that adversity to win their first playoff game.  Kyle Woldenberg-Ouyda and Joel Clubine scoried on one-yard runs and Zack Medeiros kicked four field goals.  Host the Hamilton Hurricanes who they beat 61 to 21 in the final regular season game…with Huggins.

7 [7] Westshore Rebels [7-2]
Defeated Kamloops Broncos 37 to 22

The Rebels were led by Greg Morris (Whitby, ON) who had an incredible game, rushing 24 times for 405 yards and four touchdowns.  His yardage smashes a Canadian Junior Football League record for yards in a single game.  The record was just set two weeks ago by Jordan Samoil of the Edmonton Wildcats who rushed for 365 yards on 33 carries.

8 [9] Hamilton Hurricanes (7-2) OFC
Defeated Ottawa Sooners 36 to 28

The victory advances Hamilton to its third consecutive OFC junior final.  Rookie running back Jurrell Gaddishaw sparked Hamilton with 199 yards rushing and two touchdowns.  Travel to London attempting to avenge a late season blow out loss to the Beefeaters.

9 [8]  Regina Thunder (4-4) PFC
Lost to Edmonton Wildcats 27 to 15

Thunder Head Coach Erwin Klempner “platooned” his pivots who directed their team to a second half come-from-behind victory.

10 (10) Ottawa Sooners (5-4) OFC [FINAL]
Lost to Hamilton Hurricanes 36 to 28

Lost to Hamilton Hurricanes in OFC semi-final action.  Could not overcome a 28 to 7 halftime defecit.
