CFCs Football Canada Cup ‘non all-star team’: some other great performances

It is never easy and somewhat impossible to choose an all-star team. What we have done here is hilite a few players who did not make the Football Canada Cup all star team but had strong performances. Here are a list of players:

Mr. Versatility

Cody Cluett was a quarterback, receiver and returner for team Nova Scotia. His versatility became more important when A’dre Fraser went down with an injury early.

QBs

Matthew Bonaca of Alberta was one of the biggest reasons Alberta reversed their fortunes from 2010. His accuracy and athleticism was a catalyst for their offense.

Hugo Richard, part of Team Quebec’s dynamic duo, played well in game one and game two but his second half performance in the gold medal game was pivotal in Quebec’s victory. A scramble for a first down deep in their own territory and his ability to throw the deep ball were huge.

RBs

Another dynamic duo for Team Quebec were running backs Gabriel Parent and Christopher Amoah. Amoah made the catch of the tourney in game 2.

Sask’s Brandin Cannon got better as the tournament progressed…and was the smallest running back in the tourney.

RECs

Quebec’s Dev Lamour caught two +80 yard touchdowns in the final – big time.

Ontario East’s Danny Vandervoort got better as the tourney progressed and was reliable all tournament.

OL

Quebec and Alberta’s offensive line were tremendous and a big reason for their success. Names not included as all stars but need to be mentioned are: Quebec – Fraser Blaikie, Robin Joly, Guilluame Pelletier, Joseph-Alexandre Poirier-Couture, Marc-Olivier Perreault; Alberta – Justin Lancelee, Sean Heligsetzer, Jacob Brett, Evan Rutherford, Conrad Krasowski, Ryan Sceviour.

DL

Ontario West’s Curtis Gravelle had a strong tourney at the one-tech position as did Zack Mallough.

LBs

Sask’s Sean Horel was all over the field. Nova Scotia’s Keith Langille played extremely well, making tackles consistently when needed. Manitoba’s Leon Cenerini was great against the run.

DBs

Ontario West’s Jack Gatza was a consistent performer against the pass and run and Jadon Johnson kept everything in front of him from his corner position. Ontario East’s Harrison DaCosta and Riley Baines were opportunistic, each with pivotal picks that gave their team momentum. The entire Quebec secondary used their speed to limit everyone’s pass game.

Specials

The Quebec return game…outstanding.

Coaching

Head Coach – Marc Loranger – Had his team focused from the ‘get-go’. Played with poise and confidence.

Offensive Coordinator – Benoit Groulx – Did an outstanding job of interchanging personal and highlighting their individual skill sets.

Defensive Coordinator – Mickey Donovan – Second year in a row ran a tremendous defense for Team Ontario West. Would have been even better if they could score points.

Specials Coordinator – Spiro Feradorous – Best special teams in the tournament. Won every games field position with great coverage and outstanding returns.

We are sure there are others we missed. Who would you add to the list?
