CISAA: St. Andrew’s Saints Remain Undefeated

The St. Andrew’s Saints proved that they are the team to beat in 2012 with a win over the Trinity College Bears last Saturday 64-8.

It was a commanding win for the Saints as they are the only team left in the CISAA league to remain undefeated.
The Saints offense was led by quarterback Chris Merchant who was able to throw for four touchdowns in the first half alone. Other key contributors to the offense were Zach Marcus who caught four touchdowns, Jonathan Femi-Cole who rushed for two touchdowns and Malcolm Carter who scored one touchdown.  Before the half ended, the Saints had earned a 49-0 lead.
The Saints opened up the second half with their second stringers and continued to put up the score.  St. Andrew’s were able to add two more touchdowns to their tally thanks to Cole Sopik. It was not only the offense that shined last Saturday. The Saints’ defense forced seven turnovers and did not allow the Bears to get more than one than one touchdown.  The only Bear’s touchdown was scored by Connor McGorman.
The Trinity Bears defense did show some skill as Connor Picco forced a St. Andrew’s safety. The Trinity College Bears’ next game will be against Ashbury this Sunday at 1:30PM at Ashbury. Trinity is still without a win this season, but this Sunday could see their first win.
St. Andrew’s will be taking on the Villanova Knights on Saturday at 2:30PM at Villanova. Villanova has beaten one of the best teams in the league, and if St. Andrew’s underestimates their ability they could lose their first game of the year. Saints head coach Len Gurr commented on the Knights saying, “They are not to be taken lightly”.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
